Here is my big wool pincushion that stays by the side of my machine. As you can see it holds a lot of pins.
My daughter made this pink polka dot pincushion. The white portion is actually a little wooden box and the pink part comes off for some storage.
This strawberry pincushion stays in my applique tool box. It was given to me from a lady in my quilt bee. 
This one stays on a table where I sit and applique upstairs in my sewing area. I made this one. I bought some wool roving and made several of these.
Now this one will stay downstairs where I sit and applique or embroider. I keep pins in the little pin holder underneath the scissors but now I have this very cute pincushion from Darlene I can use for my pins.So let's see your fanciest pincushion. I am also curious, do you all sit and sew in different places around your house? My place downstairs is near the kitchen so while dinner is cooking or while I am watching TV I will do applique or some embroidery or sew on binding.

I don't have any pincushions, I just poke them into the arm of my recliner...it's old so it's ok.

Carrie, I am woefully ashamed of my pincushions after looking at yours! I do have a wool one like the one next to your sewing machine, but its in a drawer - unused! And I have two round magnetic pincushions near my sewing machine. When I hand stitch I sit in a rocker in the LR with a little daisy pincushion poked in the hole of a handmade box by Mr. Red Geranium Cottage! I think I may have to get busy making some really neat pincushions!

Pretty baskets Carrie and I love your pincushions. I have about five right now. Most of my hand sewing is done (in the familyroom) in my favourite chair. The lamp by this chair provides the best light. I have quilted in every room of the house, except the bathroom! LOL
ReplyDeleteI have a magnetic pincushion on my cutting table but it's being replaced by one Darlene sent me. I have one by my sewing machine and nothing by where I hand sew...which is downstairs in the living room. Sadly no pincushion.
ReplyDeleteI love pincushions and have them all over, one where I cut, one where I machine sew, one where I hand sew, one for my betweens, oh yes a new magnetic one from Glenna (thanks again) I sew in my studio, but do all my hand work up in my bedroom in front of the TV, I find if I am downstaires I will find something else to do, like clean!!

ReplyDeleteI have separate pin cushions for different pins. My flathead flower pins in one, my silk pins in another... and so on... you have a great collection of pretty ones.

I am the proud owner of one of Darlene's pretty pin cushions, and another cuttie from Stina, and several others around the house. I keep one by my machine, which I drag back and forth to the cutting talbe, and another that I have sitting in the living room next to my stitching chair.

Oh Carrie, you can NEVER have too many pincushions!!! I love pincushions!!! You really don't want to know how many I have. Actually, I'm afraid to count them.

I do all my machine sewing in my studio and all my hand stitching at the kitchen table. I have a little TV there and a radio/CD player if there's nothing interesting on TV and a little table top OTT lite that provides a perfect light source.
These additional baskets that you've shared with us are beautiful. Truly an inspiration.
I just found your blog and have a question about applique. How do you do it???? I embroider and I like to make small wall hangings. I do not quilt but would like to be able to quilt the little small wall hangings. I love all the things I find on blogs where people have appliqued other pieces on to blocks etc. and would love to learn to do this. Where would you suggest I start are there blogs with tutorials?? Does your blog have one. Is there any book I can get from the library any help in directing me would be greatly appreciated.

I only have 3 pincushions. I should probably keep one downstairs (where I do most of my handwork), but for whatever reason, they all live upstairs next to my sewing machine. I may need to change that!

I loved seeing all your pin cushions. I do sew at my kitchen table, but mostly in my sewing room because is it so big and nice! I do not however have a lot of pin cushions! I loved the one Darlene sent you!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, I don't even know how many pin cushions I have. My favorite one is a painted turtle made out of pebbles, with the little cushion glued on the top.

ReplyDeleteThis is a good post.. showing all your pin cushions. I should do one some day too. The other day I came across an etsy shop that sells emery. I thought that was very interesting.. and was tempted to get some of her little emery rings. They would be wonderful for keeping needles sharp.

Those baskets are wonderful. I love having lots of pincushions around though I don't think of myself as a collector. Mine are all used daily! One of my favorite "workhorses" is still my old red tomato cushion with the strawberry at the end (really helpful in southern humidity!)
ReplyDeleteYikes! I have more pin cushions than I can count, but I am anxious to get a new cupcake pin cushion. I have my mother's tomato pin cushion and a felted wool one like the one in your picture (that one is probably my favorite). I have many more and they mostly live in my sewing room. But, I do sew all over the house, except the bedroom and the bath. Mainly, the best handwork place is the den, next to my OTT light, sharing space with DH.
ReplyDeleteI have one of those cool wool ones upstairs in a magnetic bowl on my longarm but I hate the pins in it and never use them...deadly, dangerous flower pins! The pin 'cushion' I use most is the purple magnetic stick that I can use if I drop one. I love your new flower one though. I may need to rethink my 'habits'.

ReplyDeleteWhat an array of pincushions Carrie! So many pretty ones. My favourite is one my daughter made me years ago, it's embroidered and put in a tiny pot. I'll post some photos of mine in the next day or so - it will be interesting to see other's pincushions too!
