You all are so sweet and understanding about my elbow. Thank you all for your encouraging words. Still hurts a lot. I am being good and bored. I really want to do some hand work. Trying to be patient. How about something fun?
Are you up for a challenge this year? Stephanie is having one on her blog so check out the rules.Lots have signed up already. You have until January 15 to sign up. The challenge is to use what you have and make a string quilt. I started one last year so I am going to take the challenge and get this UFO done this year.
I know a lot of you are very organized with your scraps but not me. I just throw them in these paper bags under my cutting table. As you can see they are overflowing so I need to get busy.
Instead of using muslin for my foundation I use this really cheap pad of paper that I buy at the dollar store.
I took a class with Bonnie Hunter last year and she has this free pattern for the spider web if you like this one. This is as far as I got so I am ready to take the challenge. Hope you will too. It will be fun.

Carrie P.

I joined the challenge too!!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing your progress. I have 2 not so organized scrap bins at my friends house that I need to pick up so I can start. What a great way to get rid of scraps!
I've already signed up, Carrie. Hopefully I'll be able to get some cutting done this week. It's on my "to do" list.
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon.
I will go check it out. This is the first I've heard about it. And I do hope your elbow will allow you to sew.
ReplyDeleteWow sounds like an interesting challenge. It will be fun to see what everyone creates.
ReplyDeleteTerrific and inexpensive idea. I've had lots of suggestions for what to use for the foundations. Oh I'm not organized with my scraps either. Wishing you a speedy recovery! :o)
ReplyDeleteVery cool - I'm doing machine applique to give myself a break from hand-stitching - do what you have to, right? I hope you enjoy the challenge, can't wait to see the finished product!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great challenge...maybe I should join up!
ReplyDeleteI am down with pneumonia! Happy New Year to me! Being in bed is so boring, and my nurse/husband lets me out to read blogs for a few minutes a day. Yours is one of my favorite!
In stitches,
Teresa :o)
Sorry to hear that your "elbow" has decided to act up--shame on it!!!
ReplyDeleteI have already joined this challenge too as I have soo many small "string" leftovers in bags around here--sooo!!!
Get better--see ya soon-\
Hugs, Di&co
Organizing scraps is kinda fun, it brings back memories of projects worked on.
ReplyDeleteCrispy
I've just read about this challenge and it sound like a good plan .... good luck with yours!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your elbow .. ouch ..
Your strings are so cute Carrie! I may do that pattern for Stephanies challenge. Hope things are going better with your elbow.
ReplyDeleteWarning!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOnce You get bitten by the Bonnie K. Hunter scrap bug you've got the urge to do all things scrappy.....ask me how I know :0)!
This makes a gorgeous quilt.
Happy sewing
I'm glad you are finding some fun things to make at your machine. I hope your elbow is improving! Your string blocks look so great!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip for using paper. I think I will take your suggestion. Happy sewing!
ReplyDeleteI hope your elbow is getting better. The scrappy quilt looks wonderful, Bonnie Hunters quilts are so colorful. I'm trying to finish up several UFO's for now, so I won't be joining the challenge, but it does sound like fun.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many fun projects going on right now online. I'd love to make a string quilt someday. But I'm trying to buckle down and stay focused on my current projects as much as I can. So, I'll have to try it another time. Looks like you're off to a great start though-- those blocks are lovely!
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be a lot of fun to see what everyone makes with their string blocks!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying really hard to stay focused and then I see Stephanie's challenge and your web blocks which I love. I'm not going to commit but I know I'll love seeing everyone's progress. I hope you get huge improvements with the elbow.
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun Carrie. Thank goodness all my scraps are already cut into 1" squares! :) I will enjoy watching your progress.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Carrie.. hope you can get rid of that elbow problem you have to much to do to stay down!
ReplyDeleteI have a rubbermaid barrel of scraps that is overflowing and some bags.. guess I should get more organized.
hope you are better soon...love your first knitting project as well it is fun to knit!
are your groups meeting soon??
It is so lovely. I'm sure you are like me and could make dozens of these with what we have on hand.
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better really soon, Carrie! Thinking of you without a quilt in your hand is just not right.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Lea
Carrie,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words on my Spring Blooms quilt. Your spider web quilt beautiful -- I know you hand-quilt, do you hand-piece too?
What a great way to use up scraps. I have missed the deadline but still will follow along when time permits. Love that pattern link you gave. Wishing your elbow feels better soon.
