A Statistic

I have become a statistic. One third of women before the age of 60 will have this done. I have joined the club. A week ago I had a hysterectomy. I had it done with something called a DaVinci robot and I am doing very well. So this past week my husband and daughter have been taking very good care of me. A very sweet friend brought over some meals for us which was so kind.

While I am recuperating I have been working on a little bit of applique and some yo yos for a little pillow I want to make. My elbow is stilling bothering me a lot so after my first post op visit when I can drive again I will probably go see the doctor.
I have been doing a lot of TV watching and reading too. Check out the cover of this new book I got. It could definitely be one of those coffee table books. The cover and the inside have the most beautiful photos. It has lots of primitive style projects.
I think I am going to attempt the stairs to my sewing room today and work on my String Quilt Challenge.

With Passion,
Carrie P.

Change is inevitable-except from a vending machine. Robert C. Gallagher

ps. this is for Karine P. in Belgium who has no reply. I do not use the pencils. I use crayons when I color my blocks. The color does not run and it will fade if you wash the quilt a lot. Hope this answers your question.

  3. Carrie...please don't push yourself...you need to heal at your own pace. I was 41 when I had my surgery (didn't have the fancy robot one) and it took awhile to feel like myself again.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

  4. Take care of yourself, Carrie. Do you think that if I were to send you some home made chicken soup that it'll be cold by the time it gets there?

Take it easy my friend and I wish you the speediest recovery ever.

  5. Take care Carrie, and get lots and lots of rest. Enjoy being pampered, and take the time to heal.

    Hugs,

  7. Carrie - please take good care of yourself. Let your family pamper you - you deserve it. I became member of that club almost 4 years ago.

Leaving a little get well (hug).

  8. Wishing you a speedy, relaxing recovery. It is so nice that you are surrounded by loving, caring people. Take time to enjoy being pampered. By the way, your block looks beautiful so far.

  9. I hope you are doing better soon and am glad that you have family around you to help. How frustrating that your poor elbow still hurts. Interesting reading about the pencils vs. crayons. I am doing something that the pattern maker said to use water color pencils and am concerned that if I need to wash it the colors will bleed. Think I'll stick to crayons.

  10. That is not fun at all. Take care and rest and pamper yourself a little so you can recover quickly.

  11. Oh, I joined that club a number of years ago. I have never heard of the robotic surgery. Sounds interesting. I wish you a fast recovery!

When you are feeling up to it, tell me more about the applique project you are working on.

  12. I'm still giggling what Kaaren commented. Kaaren - you're a darling!!

I do hope the steps up to our sewing room won't be any trouble because I'm sure you're ready to get back there.

Sounds like you have had some wonderful help.

Hey - it's not all that bad being a statistic - that means you "count" for something.

  16. I'm part of that statistic too...I had mine 2.5 years ago. Baby yourself, take it easy and let everyone else take care of you. I don't know how different it is using a robot, but my recovery was long, but uneventful because I rested a lot. I hope your recovery is quick...my prayers are going out to you!

  17. Take it easy Carrie......enjoy the pampering and rest.
    Hugs for a speedy recovery,

  21. Take care of yourself... dont overdo things... DONT LIFT anything heavy... I do remember my Mum... living at our place when she made hers... just so she couldnt tempt herself the hard work at the farm.... Do you know where I found her.. up on a high chair... looking for wheat flour... and she had lifted down several kilo bags... SIGH... but she looked stupid when I came home early and caught her in act..;o)
    BIG HUG!!

  23. Oh gosh..how lucky you are! Seriously girl...just think of all the thread spools you can purchase rather than the "other." Wishing you a quick recovery....go easy!!

  24. That doesn't seem fair to have aches and pains in more than one place at a time. I hope you're feeling a bit better every day. Have fun with your string project -it looks so colorful and fun so far.
    I'm praying for you.

  27. MY GOODNESS...looks like you are getting all your medical things squared away at one time! I hope you are back to your old self very soon, and that your elbow follows suit!!

I'm sure you are doing a lot of "quilt dreaming," and thinking of future projects while you are getting better and stronger.

    In stitches,

    Teresa :o)

  36. Carrie, Please what ever you do, do not over do anything. I made that mistake when I had mine done and I paid for it. I felt great and got tired of a sloppy house so I cleaned, big mistake. I paid for that mistake for years. Listen to the doctor's, if they say don't lift than don't do it no matter how good you feel... Besides its nice being pampered. Hope you have a speedy recovery

  49. Walk backwards up the stairs, it isn't as hard on the stitches. This is what I did.....I hate that I had to have a hystorectomy. Watch your body go wild. Mine did. I still to this day wonder what happen to my body and why am I in someone elses body. I look in the mirror and wonder who that is, it isn't me.....I hope you do a lot better than I did. It has been 10 years and am still feeling the effects......I couldn't take hormones so that didn't help either. Good luck and happy your doing so well. Sounds like you have great nurses.......
