I have become a statistic. One third of women before the age of 60 will have this done. I have joined the club. A week ago I had a hysterectomy. I had it done with something called a DaVinci robot and I am doing very well. So this past week my husband and daughter have been taking very good care of me. A very sweet friend brought over some meals for us which was so kind.
While I am recuperating I have been working on a little bit of applique and some yo yos for a little pillow I want to make. My elbow is stilling bothering me a lot so after my first post op visit when I can drive again I will probably go see the doctor.

I have been doing a lot of TV watching and reading too. Check out the cover of this new book I got. It could definitely be one of those coffee table books. The cover and the inside have the most beautiful photos. It has lots of primitive style projects.

I think I am going to attempt the stairs to my sewing room today and work on my String Quilt Challenge.

Change is inevitable-except from a vending machine. Robert C. Gallagher
ps. this is for Karine P. in Belgium who has no reply. I do not use the pencils. I use crayons when I color my blocks. The color does not run and it will fade if you wash the quilt a lot. Hope this answers your question.
Oh my Carrie, I hope that you will have a very speedy recovery. Take care.
ReplyDeleteCarrie, take extra special care of yourself! Let your family dote on you and do what makes you happy while you recoop! Thinking of you, ~karen
ReplyDeleteCarrie...please don't push yourself...you need to heal at your own pace. I was 41 when I had my surgery (didn't have the fancy robot one) and it took awhile to feel like myself again.
ReplyDeleteYou are in my thoughts and prayers.
Take care of yourself, Carrie. Do you think that if I were to send you some home made chicken soup that it'll be cold by the time it gets there?
ReplyDeleteTake it easy my friend and I wish you the speediest recovery ever.
Take care Carrie, and get lots and lots of rest. Enjoy being pampered, and take the time to heal.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Dorothy
Get well soon Carrie, sounds like family and friends are taking good care of you. Hope you can sort out the problem with your elbow.
ReplyDeleteCarrie - please take good care of yourself. Let your family pamper you - you deserve it. I became member of that club almost 4 years ago.
ReplyDeleteLeaving a little get well (hug).
Wishing you a speedy, relaxing recovery. It is so nice that you are surrounded by loving, caring people. Take time to enjoy being pampered. By the way, your block looks beautiful so far.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are doing better soon and am glad that you have family around you to help. How frustrating that your poor elbow still hurts. Interesting reading about the pencils vs. crayons. I am doing something that the pattern maker said to use water color pencils and am concerned that if I need to wash it the colors will bleed. Think I'll stick to crayons.
ReplyDeleteThat is not fun at all. Take care and rest and pamper yourself a little so you can recover quickly.
ReplyDeleteOh, I joined that club a number of years ago. I have never heard of the robotic surgery. Sounds interesting. I wish you a fast recovery!
ReplyDeleteWhen you are feeling up to it, tell me more about the applique project you are working on.
I'm still giggling what Kaaren commented. Kaaren - you're a darling!!
ReplyDeleteI do hope the steps up to our sewing room won't be any trouble because I'm sure you're ready to get back there.
Sounds like you have had some wonderful help.
Hey - it's not all that bad being a statistic - that means you "count" for something.
Glad you're feeling up to moving from one room to another! Wishing you a speedy recovery. Have you marked lots of pages with post it notes?
ReplyDeleteCarrie, Virtual hugs winging their way to you, I wish you a speedy recovery. Take it easy and let yourself heal. I hope you can spend the time sewing.
ReplyDeleteDidn't realize the statistic. Hope you can get some much needed rest and get spoiled rotten!!
ReplyDeleteI'm part of that statistic too...I had mine 2.5 years ago. Baby yourself, take it easy and let everyone else take care of you. I don't know how different it is using a robot, but my recovery was long, but uneventful because I rested a lot. I hope your recovery is quick...my prayers are going out to you!
ReplyDeleteTake it easy Carrie......enjoy the pampering and rest.
ReplyDeleteHugs for a speedy recovery,
Barb
I'm so glad to hear that you're recovering well! Your basket block is lovely (and it goes so well with that little pile of yo-yos!).
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself and I hope you continue to have a speedy recovery! :)
Wishing you a swift recovery, Carrie.
ReplyDeleteTake good care of yourself!
The recovery rate is surprisingly fast. I have never regretted the surgery once. I love your blog.
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself... dont overdo things... DONT LIFT anything heavy... I do remember my Mum... living at our place when she made hers... just so she couldnt tempt herself the hard work at the farm.... Do you know where I found her.. up on a high chair... looking for wheat flour... and she had lifted down several kilo bags... SIGH... but she looked stupid when I came home early and caught her in act..;o)
ReplyDeleteBIG HUG!!
My thoughts are with you. I hope you recover quickly! It's wonderful that you have good help!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh..how lucky you are! Seriously girl...just think of all the thread spools you can purchase rather than the "other." Wishing you a quick recovery....go easy!!
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't seem fair to have aches and pains in more than one place at a time. I hope you're feeling a bit better every day. Have fun with your string project -it looks so colorful and fun so far.
ReplyDeleteI'm praying for you.
Take care Carrie. Wishing you a very speedy recovery. Your will love that book. I have it and I saw the projects in the book in person. I even got to touch them. I love everyone of them.
ReplyDeleteCarrie it sounds like you are already on the road to recovery.
ReplyDeleteI had it done when I was 39 ( some problems) and it was the best thing I ever did.
MY GOODNESS...looks like you are getting all your medical things squared away at one time! I hope you are back to your old self very soon, and that your elbow follows suit!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you are doing a lot of "quilt dreaming," and thinking of future projects while you are getting better and stronger.
In stitches,
Teresa :o)
Hope your recovery time is quick and as painless as possible... Try to get some rest, and let your family/friends take care of you.
ReplyDeleteCarrie - Glad to hear that you are on the mend, but do take it easy! Enjoy the time that your family is helping you. Your applique block is lovely and I will have to check out the book - sounds interesting. Take care.
ReplyDeleteCarrie such good news to hear you are going well...and being spoilt by your family and friends, take care and I hope you have a very speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteWishing you speedy healing, Carrie!
ReplyDeleteI just had one of those in September. I hope you have a speedy, and uncomplicated, recovery! The stitching is looking great!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a speed recovery Carrie. Love the November basket.
ReplyDeleteHugs and good wishes, Carrie! Take good care of yourself, and get better quickly. I have a good friend about to go through that surgery (though I don't know if she's having the robot version...). Oh, and I love your block!
ReplyDeletePraying for a restful and smooth recovery, Carrie. {{{hugs}}}
ReplyDeleteCarrie, Please what ever you do, do not over do anything. I made that mistake when I had mine done and I paid for it. I felt great and got tired of a sloppy house so I cleaned, big mistake. I paid for that mistake for years. Listen to the doctor's, if they say don't lift than don't do it no matter how good you feel... Besides its nice being pampered. Hope you have a speedy recovery
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself. Get lots of rest. Get well soon. Don't do anything the doctor said not to do. Rest and recooperate. Be patient!
ReplyDeleteI hope you recovery quickly, but get all the rest you need.
ReplyDeleteThe applique is beautiful, you do lovely work.
I hope you feel better soon, but lap projects are fun to do while recuperating.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
((((Carrie))))) Praying for a speedy recovery for you, dear one, don't push it, enjoy the down time - and do get your arm checked out when you can. Pretty flowers, and what a wonderful friend to bring meals!
ReplyDeleteYour new book looks wonderful, and I love your block! Just take it very easy, ok?
Sounds like you are well cared for and getting the rest you need. Praying you'll have a speedy recovery. Your November block is beautiful...you do such lovely stitches. I, too, am working on finishing those blocks. I am five months behind and this type of applique is still new to me. take care...((hugs)).
ReplyDeleteYour recovery sounds like it's going well and it's a good chance to catch up with reading and movies. A little stitching helps. Continue improving and being good to yourself.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a speedy recovery... It is nice to be taken care of, so enjoy that!!
ReplyDeleteglad you are feeling better
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad everything went so smoothly for you. Take 'er easy and milk the pampering for all it's worth :0)
ReplyDeleteGentle Hugs,
Crispy
Take care and hope for a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a quick recovery!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for a wonderfully quick and easy recovery!!!
ReplyDeleteWalk backwards up the stairs, it isn't as hard on the stitches. This is what I did.....I hate that I had to have a hystorectomy. Watch your body go wild. Mine did. I still to this day wonder what happen to my body and why am I in someone elses body. I look in the mirror and wonder who that is, it isn't me.....I hope you do a lot better than I did. It has been 10 years and am still feeling the effects......I couldn't take hormones so that didn't help either. Good luck and happy your doing so well. Sounds like you have great nurses.......
ReplyDeleteHope your recovery continues to go well Carrie! I am also part of the same statistic. Just follow the rules and don't overdo it!
ReplyDeletePrayers for a speedy recovery! Take the time needed for a good heal!
ReplyDeleteYou have wonderful books to look at!
Carrie - I hope you're feeling ok today - and healing well - I just gave you an award on my blog, because YOU are special to me.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a speedy and uneventful recovery! I love your blog and follow it in my Google Reader for a while already. Lovely basket!
ReplyDeleteHope you are back on your feet soon and feel better than ever!
ReplyDeleteYes, another gal with that statistic! I was only 39...but haven't missed that organ for one day!!
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better real soon and also get some help for your elbow. Kind thoughts your way.
Get well soon, Carrie. I wish you a speedy recovery. Meanwhile, enjoy all the pampering! :)
ReplyDeleteCarrie, I hope that you're feeling better. You deserve to be taken care of and pampered - enjoy it! ;)
ReplyDeletespeedy revoery, I had one at age 42 and am now 48 ( well nearly 49) and have not looked back. Still have my ovaries, Doctor said I was too young to take those.
ReplyDeleteAnyway take care
Christine
Hi Carrie,
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering where you've been! I'm sorry you had to become a "statistic". It's good to hear you are doing well and it sounds like your family is taking good care of you. Just remember to take one day at a time. :0)
Your Bunny Hill applique looks super! I haven't seen this book before. It looks intriguing though. Take care!
Carrie, I hope you have a speedy recovery. T & P's coming your way.
ReplyDeletetake it easy.........rest up.......
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself and get plenty of rest. Let yourself be pampered. You deserve it!
ReplyDeleteI had a hysterectomy 12 years ago and wish I had it done years earlier.
Think positive.
have you joined hystersisters? they helped me tremendously through the hyster journey. I had my hysterectomy at age 33. Sad, but true.
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone.
Carrie, sorry I'm so late to read this post. I'm praying and hoping your recovery has been going well. You WILL get your energy back but it may take awhile. In the meantime, your applique squirrel looks adorable. Hope your arm holds up till you get some help with it!
ReplyDeleteOMG! I wondered where you were. I am so glad you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteTake it easy. don't try too much too soon.
ReplyDeleteI like your yo yos
