Have you ever entered a quilt, animal, produce, or a baked good in your county fair? Annemarie of Gen X Quilters is having a Summer Fair. We can enjoy this fair in our air conditioned home!For this Summer Time Fair I thought I would enter this quilt I made in 2005. I don't think I have ever shown it before. Wouldn't this pattern look great done up in Amanda Murphy fabrics or Kate Spain fabrics. The list could go on and on. I believe the pattern was from a book called Super Simple Strips by Nancy Smith and Lynda Milligan. It has been such a long time since I made the quilt don't hold me to it.
Our county fair is always held in the fall at the beginning of October. This fall will be our 129th fair and the theme is "Everyone's a Hero." Last year attendance was the second best in the fair's history. 353,762 people attended last year. You are probably wondering how I know all this. I get a catalog every year because I have entered quilts and crafts for the last several years.

I get a catalog every year because I have entered quilts and crafts for the last several years. I have never entered any food in the different categories but for the Summer Fair I am going to share one of my favorite cake recipes.
Sour Cream Pound Cake
1 cup butter
3 cups sugar
6 eggs
1/4 t. baking soda
2 t. vanilla extract
1 cup sour cream
3 cups all purpose flour
In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time. Beating well after each addition. Mix baking soda and vanilla with the sour cream in a separate bowl. Add alternately with the flour to the butter mixture. Mix well. Pour batter into a greased and floured tube pan or Bundt pan. Bake at 325* for 80 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool in pan for 15 minutes before removing to a rack. Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired or serve with fresh berries.

I like the quilt so much, especially the bits of red in it with the red border. Mmm the pound cake seems delicious. I enter jam in the NC State Fair. For several years I've gotten ribbons, usually 2nd or 3rd place. I'm gunning for 1st place this year for my peach jam. My best batch ever. Wish me luck. Hope my competition doesn't read your blog!

I'm sure that recipe isn't in any phase of the South Beach Diet but I can remember the taste of that one from my MILs house. It's always a winner.

Love the quilt AND the recipe! I've seen a few posts about the Quilt Fair but I'm going to have to skip it...too much sewing going on here, lol! I really, really miss our State Fair...mum used to work in the building with the quilts and crafts. Oldest state fair in the country, and they CLOSED it. :(
ReplyDeleteWonderful colors. Thank you for sharing your recipe. Yummy with summer berries. :o) Our Ohio State Fair is held in Columbus, the state capital. It's always in August and so very hot. There is always a butter sculpture. Because it's so darn hot we don't go every year.
