Do you have family members who quilt? Did you learn to quilt from one of them? My mother got me started with the tools of quilting. From then on I took off making my own creations. Her mother taught her to quilt. Now I have handed down the love of quilting to my daughter. My daughter who is twenty six years old just finished this quilt recently. I bought these blue fat quarters for her a couple Christmases ago. She did not want to cut them up so she came up with this design on her own. She did straight line machine quilting and she did the binding too. A very modern looking quilt.

Carrie, what a beautiful heritage you have. Learning from your own Mom and teaching your daughter makes for some wonderful bonding. My Mom never learned how to sew, and own daughter has not shown much interest. Maybe one day :-)

ReplyDeleteYour daughter is a wonderful quilter Carrie! That is a great gift to pass on. I tried with my daughter and it didn't "take". Now I'll try again with my granddaugher (but not for a few years.) My daughter has taken to cross stitching and has created some masterpieces so she still has a great pasttime. ReplyDeleteAwww, that's really terrific that you can share quilting. Even just to have someone to buy fabric with! My grandmother and aunt taught me to sew, we skipped my mom, who hated sewin, but she always admired other peoples work.

What beautiful work your daughter has done! My mom sewed clothes but never quilted and so far my daughter doesn't show an interest.....luckily she loves what I make!
ReplyDeleteI come from a long line of women involved in sewing based crafts and employment. My maternal grandmother taught my mum to sew and she taught me to use my first sewing machine (which she bought me). My daughter, also 26, and I took up quilting together in 2010. One day we hope to influence her children -- both boys, who are currently aged 2 1/2 and fifteen months!

ReplyDeleteYes my Mom taught me to sew but I made a quilt before she got the bug. Your daughter does show a lot of creativity and wow first one at 13. Maybe it's time to introduce my 12 year old niece to quilting! She used to like to help me sort my scraps by color.

ReplyDeleteYour daughters quilts are lovely! So glad that you're passing the love along. I have a 23 yr old daughter that appreciates quilts, loves to look at them, and she herself is very creative, but has never had any desire to make a quilt. I hope that will change someday so that we can share the love of quilting together.
