Real Reason

Here is the real reason we go to the Outer Banks. The surf. My husband is a surfer. He has surfed since he was young. He taught our boys to surf when they were teens. This year our daughter gave it a try. My #2 son is teaching his fiance to surf and even bought her a pink board.
The surf wasn't the greatest for them this year but they did get to surf every day. Here is my son waiting for some waves.
The day the we took a trip into Manteo I looked in the window of this shop and saw these looms. I don't know how to weave even though it is fascinating to me. The shop is called Endless Possibilities. The shop weaves items to raise money for Crisis Intervention and Prevention Center. They will teach you to weave and it is all volunteers that come in and do the weaving. At each loom are baskets with different colors of discarded fabrics and yarns. When a product is done then it hangs in the shop to be sold. Great concept, don't you think?

There is also a combination antique/quilt shop in Manteo. I didn't buy any fabric but I did find this very unique embroidered table scarf.


On our way to the Outer Banks we did stop in a town called Wilson which was a little out of the way but not too much. The shop is called Four Sisters Quilt Works. They had some very nice fabrics.


I did buy several yards of this fabric. The design is from the nursery rhymes. I don't know how I am going to use it yet but it just really caught my eye so I bought some. To the right in the picture is some pale blue fabric with intentions of using it for the background fabric in an applique project one day.
Take a look at Humpty Dumpty. I have always seen him with clothes on but now he looks like a real egg.
Here is what I worked on while I was staying in the air conditioned beach house.
I wanted to show you this picture too. There was a fenced in area for the sea turtle eggs. This was the first time I had seen this on the beach. It would have been neat to actually seen them hatch.

It was a good trip and everyone enjoyed themselves. Now it is back to the real world. Thanks for letting me share with you all and thanks for the well wishes for our vacation.
