To save my back I take the layers to my garage and tape the backing to wall with the purple paint tape. Next I spray the basting spray lightly on the back and then smooth on the batting. Then I spray the batting lightly and add the top. By taking it out to the garage I also keep the smell out of my sewing room and any sticky spray that might float around from landing on any other surfaces.
Then I take it back to my sewing room to make sure all the wrinkles are out on the back and on the front before I start quilting. This is my Christmas Wish quilt. I want to get it quilted before I show you the whole thing which I hope to get done this week.
This past weekend my husband and I spent the weekend at one of our friend's house along with 10 other couples to help them build a deck. It was a great weekend hanging out with these very good friends of ours. In between times helping with the cooking for the men I worked on this bush on my Sweet Nostalgia block. Dorothy said she got a little carried away on her original design and didn't draw many leaves on the pattern. I decided to get a little carried away too.

Good Idea to use the garage wall and save the back!! I used to use the spray all the time.
Now why didn't think of taking my quilts out to the garage to spray them? What a super idea, Carrie. Those stickies are tricky to remove if you don't wipe them up right away. Now I can't wait to see the reveal!

ooh.. light bulb moment! on the wall! I have been doing my small projects on my cutting table and being super careful about overspray but was getting worries about the larger projects I have comming up. Garage floor was not an option. Thanks for another great idea!

I haven't tried exactly that spray - but I've tried a few and I just don't like them. I pin baste on a table, and that seems to work well. No more crawling on the floor, lol. I love your idea of putting it up on the wall!

I have never tried a spray...no place to use it with a big enough surface. Can't wait to see you Christmas project and I think you put "just enough" leaves :0)

Many quilters are using basting spray. I have not tried it yet. I have tried fusible batting and oh did I made a mess of it!
I like using the spray baster too but never thought to do it on the wall! Thanks for the great tip!
Basting spray "endorsed by Carrie"! I may give it a whirl sometime... I'm still new enough to quilting that the only thing I've basted is practice pieces. ;-)

Fantastic! I will have to try this and I have the perfect spot waiting out in the garage. I have not tried this brand. The way you show how to use it looks easy enough for me, I hope.
This is the only spray I use to prep quilts when I quilt them myself. I have my kids help me and we use a big piece of waffle board from the hardware store. I have a tutorial on my blog of how we prep quilts. It is good to see how someone else does it, too.
I used Sullivans but it made my BSR on the Bernina skip stitches. 505 is the only one it likes. I love your stitchery, great leaves.
My friend and I were just discussing whether or not one could baste on a wall. I'm excited to see that you can! I may have to give that a try.

I have never heard of taping your quilt parts to the wall for basting. Food for thought.
I have this basting spray, but sure don't like the sticky residue that it leaves behind. Hanging it on the wall looks like a great idea. Great job on the leaves.

I've not seen this spray. I use the old standby, 505. (I think they still call it that). But mostly I pin my quilts.
Do you have a quilting machine or do you use your regular machine when quilting?
Carrie, the bush on your Sweet Nostalgia looks great! I love the color of the variegated thread you used. I've been getting the November pattern ready to upload, just have to proof read it. Mom is home.
