The Joys of Teaching

Did you ever play school when you were a child? I did many times. I never went to college to become a teacher but it is in my blood. I just love to share what I love with others. I homeschooled my children for sixteen years and tutored other homeschool children. I was a Sunday School teacher for several years. Now I am sharing my love for quilting with others and it is a joy to see the results.
This past Saturday I taught at the Dragonfly Quilt Shop. These photos are the borders that the ladies worked on while I was on vacation. Don't you just love the fabrics they are working with? These borders are from The New Applique Sampler. These borders were done by Patty, Debra, and Flo.
On Wednesday of this week was another day of teaching at Karen Gray Design. This class the ladies worked on making prairie points to trim their embroidered towels. This first towel was made by Paula.
These two were made by Shannon. As you can see she got her points done and sewn on her towel in class. These two towels were done by Linda. Sorry about the lighting. All the towels are white.
Well done ladies. I am so proud of you all. I even learned some new things from my students. Never to old to learn new things myself.
After class at Karen's I picked up of the newest fabric from the shop. It is called Prince Charming by Tula Pink. This is just a sneak peek of another project that I hope to teach soon.

With Passion,

Carrie P.

ps. I have added a new gadget. It is the "follow by email" gadget. I have seen these on other blogs and I like getting updates in my email. So if you would like to know when I have a new post just subscribe and it will come straight to your email.

The first rule of being a great teacher is loving what you do. It's very obvious you do. Your students works is fantastic. Love your new sneak peek. :o)

I used to play 'teacher' to my dolls who were very good students indeed. I thought I'd be a teacher, too, but ended up being a mom and wife.

Isn't it fun seeing how projects come out different when made by different people? Love the applique

When I was a kid, I taught school 5 or 6 days a week during the summer. I would watch Ding Dong School (kid's program), then go outside and ring a cowbell. The neighboorhood kids would come running. I had a couple school desks and a few kid's chairs. I made them workbooks and we had crayons & pencils. I taught them as much as I could from what I had learned at real school. One of the neighbor girls that was my age told me in our adult life that she had been jealous of how all the kids wanted to come to my house to play school. I never got to be a real school teacher but sure wanted to be. Just wasn't in the cards.

Oh, I think I would love to take an applique class from you! I, too, love to teach and every single quilt class I give teaches ME something.

If only I was in your neck of the world, Carrie. I'd be at every one of your classes! Lessons from a master applique artiste...how much I'd love that. :-)
The Tula Pink fabric is unusual. I like it but haven't been inspired to buy it or use it. I am looking forward to what you create - something wonderful I am sure!

I wanted to be a Kindergarten teacher when I was in high school. That did not happen, but I did eventually become a Girl Scout Trainer. For fifteen years I taught adults how to be Girl Scout leaders. It was quite rewarding for me.

Very lovely applique pieces your students made.
