Yep! we got lots of wood. This is how I spent my Saturday and Sunday.If you read my blog much you know that my husband and I have been clearing some of land to have a garden. That meant cutting lots of trees down, mostly tall pine trees. This weekend we had a sawyer come out with this big saw mill to cut the tree trunks into planks.
As you can see we have a pile in our garage now. It smells like Pine-sol. My #2 son came and helped on Saturday and then on Sunday it was just me and my husband rolling tree trunks onto the lifter, moving the planks off the mill, sweeping the saw dust off the planks and then carrying them to the garage to stack. The owner of the mill was controlling the saw blade as it cut the logs into planks.
Did you know that a fresh cut tree is 40% water until it drys out? So you can imagine how heavy those planks were. We stacked the planks with spacers in between so the wood dries out. It will take about a year for those planks to air dry. One day these planks will be a wood floor in our home that we plan to build in a few years.
This photo is all the outside leftover pieces. We will do this again later in a few months because we have more trees that we just haven't brought out of the woods yet. Ibuprofen was our friend this weekend. lol It was tough job but it will be worth it to see the beautiful wood floor one day.

Yes, I do know how heavy fresh cut wood is. It will be worth all the effort in the end. Chocolate works as well as Ibuprofen by the way!
Oh Carrie - I would have needed the whole bottle of Ibuprofen! That's a lot of wood and I would just love the smell your garage right now! This coming spring I can just see the two of you out there spading new ground for lots of wonderful veggies!

Oh my goodness, you're taking DIY to a whole new level, girl! That is awesome! I had no idea it took that long to dry out. Will you build on the property you're on now? I got a kick out of your garage smelling like Pine-Sol, lol!
I can relate to your post..we do all our firewood off of 100" pulp wood logs...thank goodness for the log splitter.
You have quite a project going on there but when you first step onto those wood floors in the future, there will be a tremendous sense of satisfaction and you know where every inch of that wood came from!!
That's a different way to spend a weekend. Wow - that will be one very special floor!
That's amazing, I didn't realize you could do that yourself. We had some trees taken down and rented a splitter for fire wood. We have lots and lots of fire wood, probably years worth.
You will appreciate your wood floor so much knowing it is from your very own trees -- very cool!

Yes it will be worth it, we have pine floors where my husband re-used the wood that was covering the interior log walls before he moved our cabin.

I can relate too! We cut all our own firewood to heat with. That is going to be so neat when you finally have your floor made from your own pines! I didn't know they would come to your land and mill them into planks, oh neat! My husband has a load of red oak that has been drying for 2 years as planks and he is now ready to plane it.
