One Flower Wednesday

Wednesday is almost over in my part of the world but I made it with one flower for my grandmother's flower garden quilt. You can join the garden party too. Just go over to Karen's blog and sign up.
I made my mom a lavender sachet for Mother's Day. I got this pattern from Freebies for Crafters. Khris is always sharing great links for things to make.

For those of you who follow my blog you know that I have been having problems with my elbow. The tendonitis has flared up again. The pain has never really gone completely away so I decided to see a new physical therapist and he highly recommends that I stay off the computer and not do any hand work. So for the next three weeks I will not be doing any posts. This is going to be hard for me and I sure will miss visiting with you all. I am going to use this time to go through my UFO piles and see how I can get the projects closer to being finished. So I will be back in June.

The Weekend

I just finished replying to all the kind comments about the sewing caddies. The bride to be is very happy with them and that is a good thing.

I had a very busy weekend which started on Friday. Three of my Applique Addicts ( my applique friends) went to the Quilting and Fiber Arts Exposition. There were classes, lectures, guest speakers, a vendor mall, and a quilt show. My friends and I just went for the show and vendors. My understanding was that the quilts in the show were from the vendors. Here are some photos of some of the quilts in the show.


Marie who lives in North Carolina told me she was going to be at the show too so I emailed her a picture of the bag I was going to be carrying. I told here stop and say hi if we were there at the same time. She found me and I also got to meet her husband too. It is pretty cool to be able to meet other bloggers. Hey Marie!!


The quilt show was a viewers choice award. I voted for this hand applique and hand quilted Duck quilt. If you enlarge the photo you can see other critters in the plants.
Of course I had to buy some things. A pattern booklet from Blackbird Designs. A pattern to do some rug hooking which I have been wanting to do. There was one booth that had lots of really neat buttons. I bought a few. And of course some fabric. We did stop at a new quilt shop on the way home and I bought the peach fat quarter and the fabric with the bees on it. I thought it would make great background fabric for an applique project.
Saturday I spent most of the day in the yard. Planting some herbs and vegetables. Had some weeding to do too. When I went around to the front yard to weed I saw a female Cardinal come from the Rhododendron bush. She had made a nest in it. Here are her speckled eggs. I can see her nest from one of our living room windows so I can keep an eye on them without disturbing her.
After church I spent Sunday afternoon cleaning up my sewing room. It was pretty messy after working on those sewing caddies. I also worked on a few petals for my Grandmothers flower garden. Sewing Caddies

Some of you have been waiting in anticipation to see these sewing caddies that I was working on for the last several day. They are for the bridesmaids who will be in the soon coming wedding. Ta Dah!
The soon to be bride got the bridesmaids favorite colors and then I went from there to come up with something they would all like. If you would like to make your own you can go to Gina's blog and look on her sidebar for the tutorial.
I would also like to announce that Mr. Bluebird is the proud papa of 5 little ones.
The picture is a little blurry because we wanted to hurry. Both parents just left to find food for their babies.

How does My Garden Grow?

Last week while I was reading my blog list I stopped at Karen's . She is very talented and I enjoy her blog very much.
She has started something called "One Flower Wednesday." The only requirement is to make one flower each Wednesday and to post my progress at least once a month. I thought, "I can do that!" so I joined the group.
I started my Grandmothers Flower Garden several years ago and have been thinking about getting it out again and Karen's post was my incentive.
My quilt is actually a charm quilt which means that every "petal and leaf" is made from a different fabric. You can see from these two photos that I have more flowers started and I have a pile of "charms" to work with.
I am really excited to have this out of the UFO pile! Now let's see what I can do with the flowers that have I have started.

I will be top stitching the sewing caddies this afternoon and will do a post tomorrow. I am off to hang out with my quilting bee.

Quilt Around the World

My Saturday and a couple of hours on Sunday were spent working on the sewing caddies. They are still works in progress. They are taking longer than I thought they would.
I was invited by Jane to join a block swap. This one is called Quilt Around the World. The theme is Christmas. So this little Christmas tree is going to make the rounds. One quilter will add a block and then another, and another until all the blocks make there way back to me.
This tree pattern is from an ePattern that I got from Piece O' Cake. It is called The Christmas Trees.

This should be a fun swap. I am looking forward to seeing each person's blocks. Now back to sewing caddies.
