Amish Quilts

This past Monday night was my guild meeting. We had a husband and wife team come and speak on Amish quilts and then they had a trunk show. The husband spoke on the history and the difference in the Amish quilts from three different states. I thought I would share a few of the many that they brought.

The husband is a Master Gardner, so now they are going to collect antique quilts that relate to gardens. Isn't this one lovely?
When you have a chance, go check out Megan's blog. She has four Aunt Millie blocks on it and they are gorgeous. Her blog name is really cute too.

More from Last Wednesday

Today I thought I would share some more pictures from the applique group that I attend on the first Wednesday of the month. These pictures are from our "fabulous facilitator." The shop where we meet is going to sell these BOM kits. These house patterns are from Home Sweet Home by Blackbird Designs. Aren't they gorgeous?

This block is from Blackbird Designs also. We are going to be working on this pattern next month. Our "fabulous facilitator" is making samples for us to see before we get started.

Here is another BOM that one of the ladies is getting from another shop. She does beautiful work too and she is keeping up which is always good when you are doing a BOM. This is from Blackbird Designs also.

Blog BOM

As you can see from my sidebar I am making several BOM this year. If you are interested in any of these you can click on the button on the sidebar.

I finished the "so cute" little basket block from Anne Sutton. The background is a pale pink. It is hard to tell from the picture. Sorry it is not a very good picture. The buttons have not been sewn on because I am not sure if I will put those on or some other ones. This quilt is a combination of the calendar quilt and the quilt from Ellie's site. I will be adding the strips to the side of the embroidered block.

This block is Aunt Millie's garden. I just thought I would show you I have some petals sewn on.

Quilt Extravaganza

Before I get to the Quilt Extravaganza I just have to show you a giveaway I won from Sheri Howard. She has a picture on her blog and you had to guess what it is. I guessed right and won the give away which was a yo yo maker and some other goodies. And here are all the goodies. Thanks Sheri.

Here is a view of the inside of the Quilt Extravaganza. It was packed. I am sure today will be even more packed. There were 25 vendors. Maybe it will become an annual event.
I just had to share a picture of this building across from the civic center where this event was held. I used to live in this town and this is my favorite building. I wish I knew how old it is.
Here are some of the details on the building which would make great quilting or applique designs.

Okay, so here is what I bought. I did have a list. I am really trying not to buy so much stuff that I will never use. I did that when I first began quilting. Now I usually buy for projects I am going to be working on. So here are a few other thing that I found. Some wool, a charm pack of American Primer by Minick and Simpson, and some vintage glass buttons.
I am planning to use the buttons on the Tisket, A Tasket BOM.
Here is what was not on my list. But I have plans for all of these except for the one with the bird on it. I bought it because I really like it. I will find some way to use it.
Across the street, down one block was an antique store. I found these postcards with 1910 and 1912 as the postmark dates. The card in the middle was send to a person in New York with the same maiden name as mine. I wonder if we are related. I got the milk bottle because I liked what it says on one side, "Yes sir, it's good for grown ups too." I drank milk all the time as a child and I still love milk. "It does the body good."Since I lived in the town at one time, I called a friend of mine and we went to lunch together and then I took her to the event. She is a non-quilter and was fascinated with it all. It was good to spend some time with her and shop for my favorite things.

Wednesday Applique Group

I have been busy this morning cooking. I made some banana blueberry muffins, brownies, and there are chicken enchiladas in the crockpot. A new recipe I am trying. My newly engaged son is coming over for dinner. So I thought I would make brownie sundaes for dessert. That guy can still put the food away.
Yesterday my Wednesday applique group met. After the group I just had to go in my sewing room and do just that. I had not been up there in two days. Anyway, I thought I would share some some and tell with you. These ladies in this group are so talented.

Here are two of the wall hangings finished. We were working on these last year. Remember I made a tree skirt. My resolution this year is to get it hand quilted for next Christmas. That is the only resolution I am making this year. The wall hanging with the pink border is wool and fabric. The other one is all wool.

This quilt is from a pattern called Southern Album by Kirsten Steiner. This lady actually made two of these and this is the second one. She made them for her daughter who will put them in a bedroom with twin beds. Three cheers for her.

These next two quilt tops were made by the same lady.
Look closely at this one and you will see hearts appliqued in the center of the starts.
I will share the rest tomorrow after I can get back from a out of town trip I am taking. I am going shopping. There is an event going on called the Quilting and Needle Arts Extravaganza. There are going to be 25 vendors in one place from all over this area selling their goods. It should be some fun shopping. I better go with a list and a budget or not.
