Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks

Quiltmaker magazine has published a new magazine. I had no idea that this had been published until I got one in the mail. The reason I got one in the mail...
I sent a picture of my block I created from one of their 100 Blocks magazine. I created this block for the Red, White, and Blue blog hop. Here is my photo in the magazine. It was a big surprise as I was looking through the magazine I got to the last page. I said to myself, "That looks familiar." Funny! I know. Then I realized it was my little quilt. There are some really great quilts that were created from some of the blocks in past issues. Remember my Christmas pillow? I got that pattern from one of the magazines too.
I didn't get around to adding any more bowls to my stack. This the last day of the bowl blog hop but be on the look out for more  blog hops.  The next hop is all about Dots hosted by Quilt Taffy. I am not participating in this one but it should be fun to see all the blocks. I would like to thank Madame Samm and Carol for hosting this blog. And many thanks to Regina for sharing the pattern with us. I can only imagine the work that goes into putting these together. Thanks ladies!

2012 Aurifil Featured Designer of the Month

This past week I worked on getting all the sashing on my Aurifil blocks. I had a jelly roll of these fabrics from Riley Blake. I think it is working perfectly for my blocks. I am all caught up. Unfortunately, no one around here sells the Aurifil thread so I have been using my DMC thread.
I didn't get any more bowls added to my stack but that doesn't mean you can't see some bowls today. Enjoy!

I have been adding French knots to the August Aurifil BOM. This block was designed by Bari J. the owner of We Love French Knots.
I am linking up to Kathy's Quilts. Go by and see what projects others are slowly stitching. I am also linking up to BOMs Away at What a Hoot. Don't forget to go by and see all the bowls too.

One More Bowl

Quilting Gallery is having a Solids Quilt Contest. I entered my Fiesta Ware bowls table runner. I would love your vote. I know I don't have a chance of winning but you should go by and see the fantastic quilts made with solid fabrics.

Here are the next group of "bowlers."

Applique Addicts

Yesterday the applique addicts bee met. We meet for two hours and the time just flies when we are doing hand work together. Now don't faint when you see this first picture of my applique. I know I have not really shown any applique for a while. I just felt like working on other things since spending over a year on my Hop To It quilt. I worked on the centers of the flowers from a free BOM that Dawn Heese had a while back. This is the last block. I guess I should get back to my "passion."

So I have some show and tell from the group.

These two wool projects are designs from Primitive Gatherings. Susan is doing the little flowers and Brenda is doing the candle mat.
Bea Bea has a nice stack of hexies she is working on.
Charlotte is getting ready for fall with this cute wall hanging.

And Patti has been working on baby quilts. The Sunbonnet Sues are colored with crayons. Cute!

One more bowl added to the stack.
Check out the other bowls for today.

Free Motion Quilt Challenge

For the month of August the Free Motion Quilting Challenge was brought to us by Wendy Sheppard. Her blog is called Ivory Spring. I read her blog all the time. Her machine quilting is phenomenal. You can read more about Wendy on the SewCalGal blog.

Our challenge this month was basically to sew a Jester's hat. If you go to the SewCalGal blog you will see what I am talking about. I knew this one was going to take practice on paper first. As you can see I practiced on paper a lot. Front and back. See the scribbly marks. That is my frustration showing up. I practiced and practiced. I just could not get the design down.
In my mind I kept repeating "Jester's Hat." I finally decided to try on the quilt layers. Still nothing but big time frustration. My problem came when I had to do the hat up side down. More frustration when I would get stuck in a place and didn't know where to go next.
I worked on another layered piece. More frustration!
As you can see I had many glitches. My brain and hand just were not catching on to this design. I really like it but unfortunately I don't think I will be using this design. Sorry Wendy! Your blog will still be an inspiration for me.

Let's go look at some more bowls instead of my pitiful free motion quilting!

Quilting

Remember the scrap bag preemie quilt I made? I practiced my free motion quilting and finished this top. Now to get the binding on.
Here is some of the quilting I did. These designs are from two past challenges from SewCalGal.
Don't forget to clean your machine when you get done with a project. Pretty dusty in there from the quilting and the sewing of my bowls.
Hey Now! who put that brown bowl with the green bowls? surprise! The stack is growing.
More great blogs with bowls today!

This and That

I took the time to catch up on the star blocks from Temecula Quilt Co.
I added one more bowl to my stack. I like how they are looking so far.
Don't forget to check out all the other bowls for today.

August 21st

I also won a giveaway at This N That fabrics. I don't really have much Christmas fabric so this will be nice to add to my stash. Thanks! This N That Fabrics. I have to admit I have not bought any fabric from them yet but you should see the selection they have.

Wonderful Wool

Looking at all this fabulous wool, can you guess who came to speak to our guild?
If you guessed Cathi from Shakerwood Woolens, you guessed right! You would not believe all the work that goes into hand dying her wools. Let me tell you it is a lot. What is so neat is that she keeps recipe cards of each color she makes.
Of course, I had to buy some wool. I am collecting oranges and blacks for a rug that I want to hook in the future.
Are you having fun looking at all the different bowls? I am! Here is today's schedule.
