A Gift

Here is gift of daffodils to those who are living in cold or snowy or both. Remember we have to have winter before we can spring. Be patient.
Here is another gift for some friends of ours who are planning to build a log home in the future. If you click on the picture I hope you can see the bears around the outer border that I hand quilted.  The border is actually done in beige not white like the picture shows.  I took several pictures in different light and just could not get a good one.  This is the best out of the pictures I took.

UFO top finished

Tonight is my guild meeting and I did get the UFO top done. I had the blocks pieced and one block appliqued. Once I got the flowers prepared the applique went really fast. Now if you remember I mentioned that I started this quilt in 2000 or so. I had just started quilting the year before. When I started putting all the pieces together, I have to admit I was a little worried. I feared it would not fit right but I am so happy that it went together perfectly. Take a look at the extensions in the border. The lady that designed this quilt must be a mathematician too.

What's Going On?

What's going on and where have I been? On Wednesday I had to walk down my slippery driveway and report for jury duty. I sat in a room with a bunch of other people from 8am-4pm. I did take some redwork and a quilt magazine but you can only stitch and read the whole magazine for so long. What a day!
Yesterday more snow had melted so I could drive down my driveway. Since it is the first of the month I had to take care of paying bills, grocery shopping, running errands and going to the post office. What a day!
Now I can get back to my routine. So I haven't got to sew much but I do have a few things to show you.

Here is the quilt I hang in March.  This is one of my very first quilts made in 2000 and I think it was the first class I ever took.  The blocks were made using the log cabin technique.

All done with my February section of the Calendar quilt.
Several days ago and on yesterdays entry at Stephanie's blog was a stack of something.  What was it?  Well, it was this tea house that she made for all the participants.  This is my first swap like this and Stephanie is a great hostess.  Thanks Stephanie.

My tea swap partner's package is in the mail and here is a sneak peek of a little Dresden plate. When you do close up pictures it is amazing what you see.  There is a little stray thread that I really didn't notice until I took the picture.  I did cut it off.

My tea swap partner is also going to get this bag filled with goodies.  I will show those after she gets the package.  Don't want to spoil the surprise.

Today I hope to get around to sewing on my UFO quilt. My guild meeting is Monday night and I need to get busy.  I would also like to make my $5 BOM and prep some applique pieces.

"REVEAL"

Remember the wool flowers and that stack of prairie points I made. This is what I made.Piece O' Cake put out a challenge several months ago to use a free applique block in a project.  My project has the block repeated four times.  I made this table topper to put on this table in the spring time.  I sent a picture to them and they picked the winners and I was one of them.  Click on the link to see all the entries and the other winners.  There were a lot of entries and they are all so great.   The prize is to have my project pictured in their next book.  Isn't that cool?!!  Now I have to get it sent off to them so that can happen.  I will get the project back, if any one was wondering.

Winter Wonderland

Last night around 9:30 it started snowing and look what I woke up to this morning. Five inches of snow. It has been five years since we have had a snow like this. I know a lot of you are tired of snow but these pictures are for those that don't get snow.  It definitely is a Winter Wonderland.






Here is our driveway looking up from the bottom.

Here it is from the top.  It is a 400 foot long driveway which faces the north so until the weather gets warm and melts it all, I am here to stay.
My husband and daughter parked their cars at the bottom.  School was cancelled for my daughter and my husband is working from home today.  The winters that we have had snow I have walked down the driveway if I needed something really bad but most times I will just stay in my nice cozy home.

Now for the rest of the applique bee.  A lady that just bought herself a long arm quilting machine brought this quilt to the shop and she let the group have a look at it.  This is a pattern by Kristen Steiner called "A Southern Album."
Here is the back of it.  Look at this machine quilting. Fantastic. This quilt could be reversible.
