My Design Wall

It is May already? Where did the other four months go? I don't really much to show except what was on my design wall during the past month. I have been prepping the March and April blocks for both the Country Cottages BOM and Harrington and Hannah BOM. They are ready for me to applique when I get some free time away from the garden. I have been out there every day this week.  Lots of veggies are popping up through the soil. So if you find me missing from posting you will know it is because I am out watching things grow!

Building Blocks

I decided to work on two blocks. So building them in pieces came first. Then comes the sewing.
The pattern for the block on the right gave these directions for making Fast Flying Geese. My first time making them this way. Very accurate.
The right hand block was in this magazine. I have all of them since they first starting publishing them. I love looking through them for inspiration and have made several of the blocks from different volumes. There is a  blog hop going on right now. You could win the newest volume so check it out here.
Here is the block all done. This one is a donation block that the Modern Triad quilt guild will be using in a quilt. Our challenge for May was to make a donation block using orange.
Here is my newest Blogger's BOM created by MrsSchmenkmanquilts.
And here are all them that I have made so far.
Have you heard of this blog hop going on during July? I am participating and there is room for you too. Read the rules here.

Show and Tell

Whoo! Hooooo! I finished my last Hop To It block. I worked on the sashing yesterday. I hope to get the all the sashing done this week and maybe the borders.
I went to the Applique Addicts bee last week. Patti was the only one with show and tell. Here is her version of one of Jenny's patterns.

If you look close at these two quilts you will notice that the pieced blocks are the same. Just different setting. These were $5 BOM from one of our local quilt shops. Patti does amazing quilts. Great job Patti!!

Travel Bags

Have you seen the video done by Lori Holt on Riley Blake Designs? Lori showed how to make these really cute travel bags. Now your shoes or whatever you would like to put in them can travel in style.
I have made three of these for friends. The first one I forgot to take a picture. I think I am going to make a few for Christmas gifts.

Being Brave

I finally finished my little Blessing Basket quilt from Temecula Quilt Co. After I finished practicing my FMQ challenge I decided to do a little on this quilt. I was brave to try something different than my typical straight line quilting.
When Mr. P. came home from work yesterday he went into
our bathroom to change clothes. There is a window that looks out into our backyard and the bluebird house. He yelled,"There's a black snake (non-poisonous) on the bluebird house!" I yelled, "Go get it off! He did not even stop to put shoes on because the snake was pretty close to the hole. He grabbed that snake off and got bit in one little place on his hand. After he got the snake off, the parents would not go in the house for a little while. I think they were afraid that the snake was inside.
Mr. P. was very brave. This snake has been slithering around here for the last two weeks. We saw him up in the garden and Mr. P. caught him then and let it go. Then two days ago I saw it slithering along the patio. Climbing the bird house was the last straw. Mr. P. put him in a box and delivered it to a new home about half a mile from our house. Mr. P. put it in the woods where no one else lived. That snake better not come back!
Good riddance!
