It's For The Birds blog hop

Today begins the "It's for the Bird" blog hop. If you follow my blog you know how much I enjoy bird watching. When the call went out for bloggers to participate I knew this was the one for me. If you follow my blog you also know that last year I made my daughter-in-law a pillow cover for each month. This is the last one. I have been holding onto this free pattern for months. It is called Love Birds by Bustle and Sew. I decided to make this design for the month of July because my son and daughter-in-law were married that month. So here is my entry and last pillow cover for the blog hop.
Here are some of the details of the pillow. I used applique and embroidery.
I used cotton fabrics and wool.
I also used some of my vintage buttons. I think it is the sweetest design!

For those of you who also like birds I am going to have two giveaways. The first is two wool patterns. The one with the crow has the wool pieces all cut out for you. All you need to do is find the perfect background fabric and thread for this project. You will also get the owl table runner pattern.
The second giveaway is for a quilt pattern, embroidered sewing kit pattern, and a fat quarter with birds and flowers on it.
All you have to do is let me know which giveaway you like best and tell me your favorite bird. I do love the Eastern bluebirds that we have in North Carolina. I love the sound of a Wood Thrush that visits our woods each spring.

I will announce the winner of the giveaway on May 10.

Thanks so much to Madame Samm for her endless ideas for blog hops and all the work she does in getting these hops together. I also want to thank our cheerleader for this hop, Mary at I Piece 2-Mary.
Thank you both. Now it is time for you to visit all the other blogs for today.

Little Accomplishments

Most of my weekend was spent out in the garden with Mr. P. building more raised beds for more veggies. I did accomplish two little things. I hand quilted one of the blocks in my North Carolina quilt and...
embroidered some more of the letters in my Monday Monogram sampler designed by Jenny of Elefantz. Today she shares a new letter.
Tomorrow is the first day of "It's For the Birds" blog hop. My day is tomorrow. Come back to see what I created. I will also be having a giveaway for two people too. It should be a fun hop. I know I will be checking out all the blogs because I am a bird lover.

I'm a Gardener...

so I just couldn't pass up this up seed packet design from Red Brolly. She has started up "The Girls Own Stitching Club". This is the first of some patterns in her French Country Garden Theme.  She is also showing some really cute crafts to make. Check out her blog if you are a gardener too. You can get the first pattern here.

A & G

A=Applique and G=Giveaway for those who are participating in Nothing But UFOs. Be sure to link up here.
The Applique Addicts met last week. Check out the details from this wool block Charlotte made. Aren't the tendrils the perfect touch!
Marlene made these two bird pillows to donate for Habitat for Humanity's Birdfest. She is so creative.

Marlene also made this garden wall hanging.
Susan worked on some tiny wool blocks.
And I worked my this block. This is one of the things I want to get done this month. Maybe even put the top together.
Now if you are participating in Nothing but UFOs you have a chance to win this giveaway at the end of the month. A print by Bob Timberlake and 1 yard of Hoffman fabric.

May goals and Giveaway Winner

May has arrived and it time to pick out three more UFOs to work on for the month. My first one is to finish appliqueing this block for a quilt I worked on last year. It is hard to tell where I need to applique but I can tell you the top half still needs to get done. I am doing needle turn.

Remember the Bowls with Borders blog hop I participated in last year? You can see the table runner I made for my daughter-in-law here. I decided to make some bowls to hang in my kitchen. This is just part of them. I am now ready to put the borders on and get it quilted and bound.
I am linking up this quilt to A Lovely Year of Finishes and The year of the Finished project.
One of the ladies in our guild designed this row quilt a few years back. As you can see I only got two rows done. The first row is paper pieced and the second row was hand pieced.
Here is the pattern. Oops! I cut off the top row which is applique. Anyway, you can see this is a pretty intricate quilt. I am doing all the rows in black, green and off white fabrics. I really like the way it looks so far. I know it won't get finished in May but if I can get a couple more rows done I will be doing good.
Next is more hand quilting. As you can see from the year this quilt is an oldie. I had just starting quilting in 1999 so quilting was all pretty new to me.
Two members of a guild I used to be a member of designed a quilt to represent my state of North Carolina.
You can see I have a few blocks hand quilted. I was just going to stitch in the ditch and do some quarter inch quilting in some places.
But now that I am a more experienced quilter I am going to add more quilting designs. I will show the blocks as I get each one quilted.

These projects will keep me busy for sure. So what will you work on this month? Link up your 3 UFOs for the month of May. Can't wait to see what you are going to work on.

Now for the winner of the giveaway which was a $20 gift certificate to The Raspberry Rabbits, two fat quarters, and a pattern is Cathy of Big Lake Quilter. Congratulations!!! Cathy! Have fun shopping!

Tomorrow I will share the giveaway for the month of May.
