In the Nick of Time

I did it. I reached one of my goals for this month. It was to get the top done that is going to be a Christmas gift. Here is a sneak peek. I will reveal the whole quilt after Laura quilts it and I get the binding on.

 The backing and binding are ready. I will be going out today to get some batting.

Last post about my trip to Illinois

I don't use a lot of orange when it comes to quilting but I sure would miss the color orange in the fall. 

 This tree was at one of the rest areas we stopped at during our trip. Does anyone know what kind of tree this might be?

 My in-laws took us to Eckert farm near by their home.

 As you can see from the harvest fall has arrived. Look at the size of those pumpkins!

 The morning we left the sunrise showed off the color orange too.

 One last quilt shop stop was in Louisville, Kentucky. This shop is call Among Friends Quilt Shop at 9537 Taylorville Rd. I could have spent hours in this shop. See the orange pumpkin quilt?

 If you live nearby and haven't checked out this shop you should go soon. You won't regret it.

 Here is what I bought from all the shops I visited to add to my stash. The wool was from a shop in Lebanon, Illinois called the Calico Moon. The owner didn't want me to take pictures. It is a great shop for those of you who love wool and live nearby.

I leave you with one more "orange" photo. I planted some more carrot seeds near the end of summer and picked the first ones today. These were all growing next to each other. That is why they are shaped funny. Oh, they were so sweet too.

Link up and more quilty stuff

It is time to link up your finished UFOs that you worked on this month. Remember you had to link up at the beginning of the month. I am working on a quilt top. My goal is to definitely finish it this month so that I can get it to Laura who will quilt it for me. Laura changed the name of her blog and she might have lost some of you that followed her blog. So when I was in Illinois I also got to visit my friend, Judy, who used to live near by me and attended the same guild several years ago. We just clicked as friends. She moved back to her childhood home and has really updated the house. When we pulled up to her garage she had a barn block which I noticed right away.

When you walk into her house she has this really cute goat wall hanging.

She loves pumpkins. When she moved back to Illinios a group of us made these pumpkin blocks for her.

Judy has two guest rooms. This quilt was on one bed in the "red" room.

This quilt was hanging on the wall.

The "green" room where we slept had this ladder with quilts hanging on it.

This is the quilt we slept under that night.

This was an old blocked framed and hanging on the wall.

Judy took me to her favorite quilt shop. It is called The Clothesline Quilt Shop at 102 N. Main in Avon, Illinois. Now I will tell you this is a very small town and if you blink while passing through you will miss it.

If you live in northern Illinois it is worth a day trip to check it out. This quilt shop has lots of fabrics.

The old wooden floor had quilt blocks painted on it all through the store. Cute idea.

They have a great selection of flannels too.

Maybe if you make the trip you can look for the Avon water tower as your marker for the town.

Look what Judy showed me outside of the town. Camels! In corn country of all places.

Later that day we met Judy's husband for lunch. We ate at this little restaurant.

I made Judy a little gift for her hospitality. A wooden hoop with this saying in it. You can get your free pattern here at the Sew Mama Sew blog. I also made her a pincushion with a white pumpkin on it. This pattern is in one of the first issues of the Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine.

It was great fun to see my friend Judy. We just didn't have enough time to visit with each other.

My first October Finish and some old quilts

I finally have a finish! It seems like forever since I have done any sewing. I finished the table runner that is going to be a Christmas gift. This pattern was from a summer sew along on Aunt Reen's Place. If you look close you might notice a little addition.

 I added a Cardinal which is one of the recipient's favorite birds. The bird and leaves are part of a BOM offered by Erin Russek at One Piece at a Time.

 While I was in Illinois visiting my in-laws Mr. P. and I slept under some old quilts. This one was made by my mother-in-law's aunt.

 This one was made by Mr. P's grandma.

 She made a lot of quilts. We own several she made. All of them are made from double knit fabric.

 Here are some of the blocks.

 Grandma tied a lot of her quilts with yarn.

 One thing about double knit quilts. They will keep you very warm and they will last forever!
