Crochet

I am almost ready to show you the first row on my Christmas UFO. Until then I thought I would show you some crochet I have been working on. I took this with me when I went to Illinois to visit my in-laws. They don't have the best lighting to do any hand work but this would work.

I am making my self a scarf  using this variegated yarn. I just love the look so far. I have learned a new stitch  called a Bobble. It is near the bottom of the photo done up in the brown and light blue yarn. This is an "easy" pattern from the Love of Crochet magazine. (fall 2013)

 I am also working on a table runner for my bed. This is a pattern from Oct. 2013 Crochet for a Quiet Evening by the Crochet magazine.

I wanted to make this in a coral yarn. I ordered some off the internet. Big mistake. It was a rust color. On my computer it looked coral and the web site even named the yarn as coral. I don't know if I will try ordering yarn off the internet anymore.

Back to sewing!

Two Passions

Sewing and Cooking

This weekend has kept me busy. Mr. P. and I spent Saturday raking leaves. Today everywhere we raked is covered again with leaves. Maybe next weekend all the leaves will be off the trees. 

Last night I sewed the borders on one more Kathy Schmitz BOM.

 I started working on this UFO. I also cut out some of the applique pieces but I will show them later.

 When I was in Illinois I bought three cooking pumpkins while we were at Eckert farm. I found the best way to cook the raw pumpkin is in the microwave. I cut the pumpkin in chunks, put it in a covered glass dish and microwave for eight minutes. So much easier than steaming or baking it in the oven. So today I made Pumpkin chocolate chip nut bread. I got the recipe from King Arthur Flour.

 I also made my first pumpkin butter. These are all going in the freezer to enjoy during the winter months.

Nothing But UFOs for November

Here we go! November 1st already! Only two more months to work on your UFOs with me. Well I got one of my other goals finished last night. Yippee!! I got my Bunny Hill BOM put together.

I even got the backing and binding made. So that was two goals reached by me.

Alas! this one is still on the design wall. My goal this month is to get the blocks together and one of the borders on it. I have a total of three borders planned for this quilt. One of them is applique. I would really like to get the applique pieces prepped too.

But for this month's goal for A Lovely Year of finishes I am going to get the blocks put together and one border on.

The fall colors in my neck of the woods are just brilliant today. So I was inspired to bring out this UFO. In the early 2000s my mom, who is also a quilter, and I swapped blocks with each other. I asked for fall colored blocks. She asked for blue and yellow blocks. My mom put her quilt together right away after we finished the swap. As you can see mine are just the blocks.

There are so many blocks I could not get them up on my design wall. There are 20 more blocks sitting in the pile. I think I could make a king size quilt with all the blocks. I am thinking about splitting up the blocks. Maybe putting the fall colored blocks in one quilt and the green ones in another quilt. I am going to think about it while I put my Christmas tree blocks together.

Angie inspired me to get out my grandmother's flower garden quilt again. I have a stack of green hexagons I will work on this month. Each Friday is Hexie Friday on Angie's blog. I added the four green hexies last night. So I am linking up today.
