Soupcon QAL

I finished step three of the Soupcon QAL hosted by Karen H. at Faeries and Fibres. I am really enjoying each step.

 Karen H. is sharing tutorials on how to make some pretty spiffy hexagons. Here is my first one that I put together. I have hexagons made for two more. I hope to get them sewn together this week. I am linking up my hexagon to hexie Friday on Angie's blog.

Don't Let the Door Stop You

Do you have a door which does not like to stay in place? My side door to the outside will not stay put when I open it to let in light from the storm door. It will close back on its own about half way.  Usually I will just put whatever is convenient in front of the door to keep it open.

 I saw this cute little door stop in the Spring 2012 Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine. I have had a subscription to the magazine ever since it came out. I kept telling myself I should make this doorstop. When I saw the call for the door stop blog hop I knew it was finally time to make my door stop for that annoying door. The pattern was created by Janice Menear.

 So meet my little friend. As you can see I changed his face a little. My daughter thought he needed rabbit teeth. His ears are a little closer together which makes it much easier to pick up and move him out of the way to shut the door. I filled the bottom part with crushed walnut shells which I bought at a local pet store. The top part has fiberfill in it.

 As you can see he would rather be outside in sunny or snowy weather.

Miscellaneous Stuff

Today one of my local quilt shops had the BOM that I signed up for this year. It was a very easy block for this month. I made it as soon as I got home today.

 Look what I discovered. I was looking for some re-fills for my Sewline fabric glue pen. I could find any. I had to go to Joanns today for some terry cloth so I decided to look at the Fons and Porter notions. Guess what? Their re-fills work perfectly in the Sewline fabric pen. I know one person who left a comment saying she couldn't find refills. Well now you know that you can use either brand re-fills and they will work.

 I have figured out what I want to work on as my goal this month for A Lovely Year of Finishes. I won this ocean/fish fabric from Sauders Fabrics in December. There wasn't a whole lot of it because they were actually fabric samples. I was able to create a preemie quilt by making disappearing nine patch blocks. I think it will make a nice quilt for a baby boy. My quilt guild makes and donates quilts for preemie babies. Each person in the guild has been asked to make four this year. This will be number two for me.

 So my goal this month is to machine quilt it and get it bound.

Building my Log Cabin

I have made my three log cabin blocks for this month for my Modern Quilt Therapy group. You can see the fabric that is my inspiration for my log cabin blocks here. This is not how the blocks will be set. I just put them on my design wall this way. Using fabric my from my stash. Yay!
