Number 2 UFO

Here is my number 2UFO from the list. This was a row robin that was done in 2007. I had be collecting patriotic fabric for a while and when the guild decided to do a row robin that is the theme I decided to use. I made the second row which is the flags. As you can see it needs a border.
My plan for the border is to use this fabric with stars. (it's blurry, no, your eyes are not bad) I am going to sew these stars around the border. The stars will be raw edge applique. I am planning to have it machine quilted. The good news is that we two months to get this one done.
I just had to share this picture of this pine cone. It is 1/2"-3/4" long. We planted this Hemlock tree when we moved into this house. We have been here 12 years now. The tree was only 3 feet tall when we first planted it. Now it is 25 feet tall. Last year was the first year it had these little pine cones and now this year we see some more. It doesn't have very many but I just think it is so neat for such a big tree to have such little pine cones. (a picture of the tree is on the 11/21 entry)

One more Christmas decoration. I got this at a craft show in the late 90's. It is a old wooden box with a sliding lid. I really like the pine cones and the way it frames the Snowman family.

Guild Night

The guild meeting was a great time with a great bunch of ladies. The guild did something different this year that has not been done since I have been a member. Our vice president asked if the different quilting bees would decorate the tables this year. They were all great.



These first three pictures were from the bee that I am in. I did not help with the decorations because I have not been able to get to the bee in a while. Notice the spool garland. Old wooden spools covered in fabric and then strung together. The little Christmas tree is somehow made out of fat quarters.
This little Santa was at another table. Isn't he cute? She made a bunch and they were different sizes.
This is a tree skirt that one of the members made.
This lovely quilt was made by a different member. These blocks were given to her by her friends. I love Sampler quilts.

There were a couple of ladies that finished their number 9 UFO. Which I did not. The next number that was drawn was number 2. I will show you my number 2 tomorrow.

Guild Tonight

Tonight is our guild meeting which includes our Christmas dinner together. It is always great fun and food. We have the best cooks in the guild. My number 9 UFO is going back in the UFO pile. Poor thing. You can see I just got six blocks done. There are six more to do but they will have to wait.
Some more Christmas decorations. These are the stockings I made for my children. My oldest son has his now that he is married. All three of them together tell the Christmas story from the book of Luke in the Bible.
As I was reading the blogs on my list last week I read about this free Mystery BOM called Red Delicious. Esther has a sneek peek of the next block and if you want to do this you need to go get the first block soon. She will be posting a new block on the 15th of each month.

Antique Mall

Yesterday my husband and I went up to Stuart, Virginia to visit a huge antique mall. I am not really a collector of antiques or vintage things but since my husband has discovered his hobby, finally, I have been looking at these things a little differently. My husband's new hobby is woodworking with the old time tools. So now we go to antique stores looking for the old tools. While he is looking I am having fun looking too with nothing in particular on my mind to buy. What ever catches my eye is what I might buy. This past summer I went through my house and de-junked and simplified so I don't really want to fill up my house with stuff again but I did buy a few things.

The basket is going to be used to hold my husband's magazines and papers he prints from the internet. He has a tendency to pile them up on the coffee table and they become a big pile so now he has a place to put his stuff. I love the blue jars and this one had the zinc lid that was not all beat up. I like to put my scraps of wool in them. I just liked the casserole dish. The tag said the metal part was from the 1930's. I don't know if that is true or not I just like the dish. Then I saw that shoe box of ornaments and it called my name. The colors are just pretty together.
The little cookbook is for Borden's Eagle Brand milk. I love the pictures inside so I bought it. I think it might be from the 50's.

I found this aluminum tray and I put the ornaments in it and now I have a new Christmas decoration. I think the pink ornaments bring out the pinks of the quilt.

I went to Stephanie's blog today and she is introducing a new blogger who is also a pattern designer. She has only been blogging since November and her name is Sheri Howard. It looks like she likes to do some applique. My kind of designer. She is also having a giveaway. Go say hi and welcome her. And don't forget to tell her I sent you.
