Applique Points Tutorial

My first tutorial by request. I am going to show you how to do points on needle turn applique and tomorrow I will show you how to do them using freezer paper. My daughter took the photos, so give her a hand.
Here I am approaching a point.
When you get to the point I take two stitches right at the very point to hold it in place.
Now I have this little bit of excess fabric. This little bit of fabric can make it hard to get a good point. So...
I will take my small sharp pointed scissors and snip that little bit of fabric away.

Here is where a toothpick comes in handy. This is one of my favorite tools. It works great turning the fabric and when you are having trouble turning the fabric with the needle, try using a toothpick. Take the toothpick and fold the tip under so you have a straight horizontal edge, then...
continue to use the toothpick to turn under the fabric. Once you get a little fabric turned under use your other thumb and finger press it down and you are ready to sew again.
Take one stitch at the very tip of the point and continue stitching down the side.
And here you go, pretty decent points if I say so myself.

There are a lot of things going today in blogland. New BOM posted, the Winter Giveaway will be drawing names, and the deadline for the Time for Tea swap. The Red Delicious BOM is up and ready for you to go get. You might have noticed two more buttons on my sidebar. These are embroidery BOM and they are very pretty. So if you like to embroider go check them out.

This is going to be a short post because I am getting ready to go teach my beginner applique class but I have two pictures for you. I received some money for Christmas and I have been wanting these two books and finally got them.

Amish Quilts

This past Monday night was my guild meeting. We had a husband and wife team come and speak on Amish quilts and then they had a trunk show. The husband spoke on the history and the difference in the Amish quilts from three different states. I thought I would share a few of the many that they brought.

The husband is a Master Gardner, so now they are going to collect antique quilts that relate to gardens. Isn't this one lovely?

More from Last Wednesday

Today I thought I would share some more pictures from the applique group that I attend on the first Wednesday of the month. These pictures are from our "fabulous facilitator." The shop where we meet is going to sell these BOM kits. These house patterns are from Home Sweet Home by Blackbird Designs. Aren't they gorgeous?

This block is from Blackbird Designs also. We are going to be working on this pattern next month. Our "fabulous facilitator" is making samples for us to see before we get started.

Here is another BOM that one of the ladies is getting from another shop. She does beautiful work too and she is keeping up which is always good when you are doing a BOM. This is from Blackbird Designs also.

As you can see from my sidebar I am making several BOM this year. If you are interested in any of these you can click on the button on the sidebar.

I finished the "so cute" little basket block from Anne Sutton. The background is a pale pink. It is hard to tell from the picture. Sorry it is not a very good picture. The buttons have not been sewn on because I am not sure if I will put those on or some other ones. This quilt is a combination of the calendar quilt and the quilt from Ellie's site. I will be adding the strips to the side of the embroidered block.

This block is Aunt Millie's garden. I just thought I would show you I have some petals sewn on.
