Sandy White Beaches

I just got home from the World's Most Beautiful beaches. Panama City Beach, Florida. I have family there and used to live there twenty-seven years ago.
I am busy with laundry, grocery shopping, etc. I also am busy going through all my emails. I did not have access to the internet at my mom's house. She doesn't have any need for it so why pay for it. Anyway, I will be back to blogging in a couple days. I have several things to share with you from the trip.
With Passion,
Carrie P.

ps thanks for all the comments from the previous post. I just finished reading them but I am not going to reply to them all since it has been a week. I do appreciate you stopping by though.

It's for the Birds blog hop Winner

Before I announce the winners of my giveaway for the blog hop I thought I would show you what has been going on in one of our bushes in our front yard. Last year we had a pair of Cardinals make a nest in the same exact place. This year they came again. I took this picture on May 3rd.
This picture was taken on May 6. See their eyes looking at me.
This pictures was taken on May 9. The two babies have left the nest.  One egg did not hatch.
Compared to bluebirds they are out of the nest really quick.

Now for the winners of my blog hop. Congratulations Ladies! I am sending you an email to let you know that you are the lucky winners.
Kris Loves Fabric wins the wool kit and patterns.
Pauline won the the two patterns and the fat quarter of bird fabric.

This has been a fun blog hop. So many creative quilters showing off their birds. Thanks again to Madame Samm for her fantastic organizational skills and Mary for being our cheerleader for this hop.

This weekend is going to be very busy for me so I want to wish all you mothers out there a Very  Happy Mother's Day to you. I will be spending the day with two of my children and one of my daughters-in-law. I hope you all get to spend some time with your children too.

So I want to share the rest of the days of the blog hop with you. Be sure to fly over and visit these bloggers to see their birds.

Carrie P.

Hexagon Flowers

Our guild is meeting next Monday night. The guild is having demonstrations put on by some of the  guild members. I volunteered to demonstrate English paper piecing. I thought I would pull out some of my hexagon flowers to show to those that want to learn a new technique. The very center is all sewn together but then you can see some of the other flowers I have made. Yes, this is an ongoing UFO. I might just have to work on it next month. It looks like spring has arrived in my sewing room.
Be sure to check out the bloggers who are featured in the "It's for the Birds" blog hop today. You still have time to enter my giveaway here. I am slowly trying to respond to the comments from my bird post by either replying to your comment or by visiting your blog which is kind of fun. This way I can meet "new to me" bloggers.

Drunk by Fabric

Have you ever made a drunkard's path block? I have not. As you can see from the diagrams on this sheet of paper there is some curved piecing.
Several years ago I saw a demonstration where you put an applique circle on the background fabric. You can see my register lines going down the center both ways. I match these up before I appliqued the circle on. This is where you would cut the fabric in half both ways.
So here is my first attempt at trying to figure out what size circle I should use. The space where the arrow is should be about 1/2" wide to match the drawing above.
So I made a slightly bigger circle and appliqued it to the background fabric and this time I got it to work out. Now I can begin to pick out the fabrics for my row quilt and get the circles prepped to applique on the backgrounds. I think this will be much easier for me than hand piecing.
Don't forget the "It's for the Birds" blog hop and my giveaway on yesterday's post. And speaking of birds you must go over to the Happy Appliquer and look at her bird quilt. She is not part of the blog hop but her quilt is worth the look. Heather is an inspiration for me when it comes to applique.

Here is the list for today. Have fun bird watching!

It's For The Birds blog hop

Today begins the "It's for the Bird" blog hop. If you follow my blog you know how much I enjoy bird watching. When the call went out for bloggers to participate I knew this was the one for me. If you follow my blog you also know that last year I made my daughter-in-law a pillow cover for each month. This is the last one. I have been holding onto this free pattern for months. It is called Love Birds by Bustle and Sew. I decided to make this design for the month of July because my son and daughter-in-law were married that month. So here is my entry and last pillow cover for the blog hop.
Here are some of the details of the pillow. I used applique and embroidery.
I used cotton fabrics and wool.
I also used some of my vintage buttons. I think it is the sweetest design!

For those of you who also like birds I am going to have two giveaways. The first is two wool patterns. The one with the crow has the wool pieces all cut out for you. All you need to do is find the perfect background fabric and thread for this project. You will also get the owl table runner pattern.
The second giveaway is for a quilt pattern, embroidered sewing kit pattern, and a fat quarter with birds and flowers on it.
All you have to do is let me know which giveaway you like best and tell me your favorite bird. I do love the Eastern bluebirds that we have in North Carolina. I love the sound of a Wood Thrush that visits our woods each spring.

I will announce the winner of the giveaway on May 10.

Thanks so much to Madame Samm for her endless ideas for blog hops and all the work she does in getting these hops together. I also want to thank our cheerleader for this hop, Mary at I Piece 2-Mary.
Thank you both. Now it is time for you to visit all the other blogs for today.
