My husband used old hand tools to make this table. The top has two slabs put together to make the table that wide. Where the legs come up into the top my husband took little pieces of dark walnut wood to put into the legs. The shelf on the bottom is a piece that my son bought at Lowes Hardware store.
Even though this view of the table looks rough, the top is smooth as glass. My son and DIL are so proud of the table. They just love it. I am pretty proud of my husband because this is the firstpiece of furniture he has made. Now he needs to finish the end tables.

I took a woodworking course and made the cabinets in my home and all the vanities so I can appreciate the love and care that went into this. I took the classes at a local college located in an old piano factory so we had access to the most wonderful tools and I was able to put cathedral arches on my kitchen cabinets! I miss it. I love the smell of fresh sawdust and newly cut wood. I need a tablesaw to do bigger things at home. Hmmmm, I think I'll have to strongly consider getting one this tax refund time bz I really do miss working with wood!

Your husband did a wonderful job! I love it! It's even more special that the wood came from a tree in your yard. The new/old table has a nice history to it and I am sure it will be cherished by your son and his new bride.

Oh my goodness, that is amazing! I love-love-love handmade woodwork, it gives such a feeling of connectedness.
