Okay, I need some help. I designed this flower applique pattern to hopefully teach a class next year. I think I am going to do some free motion quilting around it. But...
I want to make it into a pillow to display in the shop. I need some help on how to finish it. I am just stuck on what to trim it in or do I add some kind of border and trim? Help! The background fabric is a pale green which doesn't show up well at all. Anyway does anyone have any ideas? With Passion,

Maybe no border and just a piped edge using one of the fabric you have already used. What ever you do will be perfect, so don't stress.
That is STUNNING! I think you should trim it with some of the fabric that you use in the pattern. I think it would tie everything together beautifully!

I've enjoyed the decorations...And I must say I love your block!!! I think a scrappy border would be fun for a pillow!
Ooo. I'm picturing a scalloped edge around the center design. Make it from the geometric green print you've used for the petals. Applique the scallop (a good lesson on inside points) around all four sides and then sew the front into a simple pillow with an overlap in the back. No piping or flanged edges needed.

Your pillow applique is gorgeous. I'm picture-ing maybe a narrow border from your stem (or any) fabric, a narrowish background border and then maybe a small ruffle.... But I'm sure you will come up with something lovely!!! Have fun.
So many fabulous ideas already posted for finishing your lovely applique piece. It's so quaint, i was thinking it would look lovely with some prairie points. The points might be a nice contrast with the flowing prettyness of the applique pieces. Great work! Love it! I can't wait to read about what you choose and see it all finished!

I think no border and piping would look great...the applique is gorgeous! Maybe a scalloped edge flange-that would look good too.

Very cute apron and pot holder. I think, if you use the same fabric that the bird is standing on as either piping as someone else suggested or a border that you end the pillow with would be wonderful. :0)
I had a dream last night about a pillow with a flying geese flange edge on it.... it was an interesting idea I am going to try on a "Don't Look Now" pillow pattern I am making for my goddaughter for Christmas... I think the mint green would look nice with some chocolate browns? Maybe that's too heavy....
I think my grandma had that apron or something very similar. I don't know about how to finish the pillow but what you have done so far looks lovely!

As for the pillow, I would add a narrow curve shaped border in any of the colours.

I love the apron, thanks for the reminder to get my Christmas aprons out - my mom gave me all her old ones that won't fit around her anymore, lol! Love the potholder too, very unusual.
But oh Carrie - I LOVE YOUR DESIGN - how I wish I could be in your class! I think a border out of the same fabric as the vine and the same width as the vine would be gorgeous - someone suggested a curvy one and I think that's a brilliant idea. That is just stunning, girl!!!!!

I love your applique design!! I wouldn't border it either, just use one of the fabrics as a piping around the pillow, lets the design and quilting show more :0)

What a fun little design! I wish I could take your class. I've never actually made a quillow, so I don't really know how to go about finishing one. If you're feeling short on ideas though, flickr is always full of inspiration! :)
