One quilt top is finished!
This was the last block for the other quilt that I am trying to get done by September. I am going to try to get it put together this week.
Most of time during this summer is spent taking care of the veggies in the garden. I grew beans to dry. I grew some cranberry beans.
And some black beans. I had hoped for more but we are in a drought situation in our county so it has been a rough summer for the garden. But these will be good for a couple meals.
My tomatoes did not do well at all. One section of the soil has caused the tomatoes to have blossom end rot. But a co-worker of my husband has been generous enough to share tomatoes with me. I have been busy making tomato sauce and salsa. Nothing like homemade salsa!
I had some "volunteer" pumpkins grow. The ripe one grew in the garden. The green one is growing from our compost pile.
The garlic and onions are all cured and ready use in my recipes. I shared some of these with the co-worker who gave us tomatoes.
I caught three visitors around our property. Look close and you will see a raccoon, hawk, and deer.
These are the last of the carrots. I was so pleased with the crop I got this year. A lot of these I put through the juicer.
Here is my little helper squeezing an orange for me. At least he is trying. He wants to be in the middle of everything I am doing.

Your quilt top is gorgeous, the the block is so sweet. I am envious, we had too much rain, and excessive weeds which we couldn't pull before we left on vacation. Then finally some hot weather, but after spending hours pulling weeds, my tomatoes are small and spindly, my green beans netted me about 1 lbs of beans. The only thing that did great was my sunflowers are beautiful.
I like the wool and cotton flower block very much. What quilt pattern does it go to?

Carrie, your quilt top is just beautiful. But your veggies! Oh, my goodness! My sister tells me that blossom end rot is the result of too little calcium in the soil. She's having that problem, too, and as a botanist, she always has to get to the bottom of things! Your grandson is growing way too quickly. You are so fortunate that he is part of your daily life. XO
You've had a very productive summer! Love your quilt, and your veggies. We don't grow anything other than herbs, but I love going to the produce stand each week for fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, corn and fruit!!! One of my favorite activities of summer.

Carrie, I think your bean produce looks pretty good. Is it hard to grow cranberries? I thought they had to have lots of water (at least the TV commercials show it with a water bog). I'm impressed with your carrots too. I could never get them to grow bigger than my little finger and they tasted like dirt. Cute little helper you have there.
Congratulations on your finished quilt top, Carrie! I think it's a really neat effect for a sampler to have a different color theme for each row. It looks very fresh and modern. And I'm impressed with your garden yield, even though you say it was disappointing. I count myself lucky if I can keep simple houseplants alive! :-)

Congrats on finishing your beautiful quilt top . Your veggie garden did well and a little hint I read about blossom end rot , if you put crushed egg shells in the soil when planting your tomatoes it will prevent this happening . I did this last year and it was my first year with no rot . Your grandson is so adorable :-)

ooh i love fresh veggies this time of year....we are overdosing on them big time...bruschetta...delish! and corn fritters are faves of ours, plus all the others too...rich beyond belief!
