This is a block that I got from the The Rabbit Factory. Lorraine is doing a free BOM and I am going to pick out my favorite 4 and make a small quilt. This is my favorite out of the three that has been published so far.

When you have a chance go by Crispy Quilts and see her first Aunt Millie's Garden block. It is fabulous.

Generosity strikes again!

Quilters are some of the most generous peopleI know. Yesterday a box came in the mail that I was not expecting. I recognized the address and inside the box were these lovely Civil War fabrics. As many of you know I have joined the Sig Swap going on at Melissa's which uses Civil War fabrics. As I was conversing with Sue through emails I mentioned that I did not have any Civil War fabrics and would be going shopping for some fabric. Well, I got to shop right from that box. Look at these lovely fabrics. Oh,I will take them all! A HUGE THANK YOU to Sue and a GREAT BIG HUG. You have blessed me.

As I was reading my Mary Jane's Farm magazine yesterday I came across this article. The title was Knit for a Cause. I thought about all you quilters who knit and crochet along with making beautiful quilts. Here is a great idea to use all those leftovers of yarn from your projects. You knit or crochet a 7" x 9" section to be joined with other sections to be made into blankets for those in need. You can work individually or as a group to make the sections. You can read more about Warm Up America on their website.

Verandah View

All caught up on my Verandah View blocks. Cheryl is talking about doing another free BOM next year. Oh, what's a girl to do. I have really enjoyed working on these blocks so I will probably join again next year.

This block had a Laughing Kookaburro sitting on the arbor but I changed it to a Carolina Wren. We have one that hangs around our yard chattering and checking all the plants for bugs. Check out this interesting You Tube video on the Kookaburro if you have a chance. Pretty interesting. Some of the other videos are neat because they have the birds "laughing." Fourth of July Blessings

As many of you know there were a lot of giveaways going on during the Fourth of July. I left comments on three of my favorite blogs not thinking a whole lot about it. As we all know when there a great giveaways going on the comments can reach really high numbers and you don't really even think of winning even one giveaway. But I was blessed three times.
The first giveaway was going on over at Bee In My Bonnet. Lori has a fabulous blog and it is so much fun to read. I always look forward to seeing what she is going to show on Vintage Mondays. Here is what she sent to for the giveaway that I won over at her blog. She sent me these flour sack towels and the pattern to embroider on each of the towels.
Lori is a pattern designer of applique patterns. And now I own two of her patterns. These were just little extras she put in the package.

Anne Sutton of Bunnyhill Desgins was having a giveaway on her blog too. Many of you are doing her Tisket, A Tasket BOM and you know what a sweet blog she has. I was one of three winners on this giveaway and I could pick any pattern I wanted. I had seen Darlene working on Rabbits Prefer Emboridery and have admired it from a far. Now I can do one myself. I might do it in brown thread and fabrics. Thank so much Anne. Another blessing.
Kaaren at The Painted Quilt who has a way with words and a great sense of humor was giving away four of her creations. I have seen several of Kaaren's painted pieces on her blog and have greatly admired them. Now I am the proud owner of this original reproduction utensil box. The detail is phenomenal.
Look here! She sent me one of her books too. The pieces in the book are amazing also. Kaaren you have blessed me with one of your original designs. Thank you so much. I will treasure it.
I am blessed and somehow thank you just doesn't seem enough to say to these ladies for their generosity. But I will say a great big "THANK YOU" to all three of you.

Day Trip

My husband has a new work schedule during the summer months which means he has Fridays off. It has been great because we take little day trips and this past Friday we decided to go north of us and go shopping in the antique stores. We also decided to take a drive up to Pilot Mountain.Remember my signature blocks that I have been sending out to other quilters? Here is my picture from the lookout that is the picture above.


The picture above is a view toward the city Winston-Salem. The picture below is my where zoomed in as far as my camera would go. If you look close you can see the buildings downtown.
Another view to the left of Pilot Mountain. My husband I own 10 acres of land out to the left of that tiny peak. We hope to move out there within a couple of years.
We went into the town of Pilot Mountain and visited three antique stores on their Main Street.
Found some little napkins.

Another handkerchief with some very nice crochet trim.
Boy did I get excited when I saw this box full of all kinds of sewing stuff. I started digging and look at all this vintage rick rack I found. Check out the prices on some of the wrappers.
Another find was this thread on wood spools. Notice the three in the bottom of the picture. They are pure silk. The owner of the shop just got in some boxes of the thread. The boxes were falling apart but inside were these precious jewels.
I found envelope of kitchen motifs, looked inside to see if the patterns were in it and didn't pay any attention to the other papers inside but when I got home...

and this envelope were inside. Both have all their patterns too.
Check out this applique block I found. Noticed on the right hand side that a set of berries do not have the stems embroidered onto the fabric. I think I am going to soak the block in some Oxiclean and see it some of the stains will come out. The author of "Sugar Sacks" does that with old feed sacks that she finds. So I thought I would try it.
