Almost Christmas?

Another quilt given to us from Lottie, my husband's grandma. I like to pull this quilt out during Christmas time and lay it on the back of our couch. Even though it has blue fabric in it I still think it speaks Christmas to me.

Old Stuff

This past Monday night was my guild meeting. We have a table set up for those who want to get rid of some things, mostly magazines. Someone had left these Aunt Martha magazines and I picked them. It is so much fun going through these. There is no copyright date in them so I don't know how old they might be.
While I was looking through the one with the Cathedral Window pattern on the cover, look what I came across. The pattern for that old double knit quilt. As you can see it has another name. I just thought that was too cool. All the magazine are full of templates like this one.
Who remembers Zorro? I used to love watching that show when I was a little girl. This quilt was my husband's when he was a child. Last time we visited his parents his mom gave us this quilt. Nothing fancy but my husband loved it as a young child.
Just some shirt buttons I found at an antique store. All white but there was one red button in the jar.

I am sad to say that this another beautiful quilt I have acquired from Lottie, my husband's grandma, and I know nothing about it. I feel like it is from the 30's just because of the fabrics but I am not a quilt historian so I can't be sure. As you can see the fabrics are still bight and cheery. Enjoy!




Yesterday when I showed the double knit quilt Crispy shared the name of the block with me and a site with a pattern just in case you would like to reproduce the block. It is called Amish Dahlia. Maybe one day I will make a cotton version of my quilt.

Double Knit?

Have you ever seen a quilt done in double knit fabrics? No?! well now you have.

This is another quilt that was given to us by my husband's grandma. Her name was Lottie and my grandma's name was Stella. Great old fashioned names. Anyway here is the story behind this quilt. I will try to keep it short. Shortly after my husband and I married we decided to take a trip from Florida to Missouri where Lottie lived and spend a week with her. It was winter and she had lots of quilts around. She had just finished this top and asked if we would like it. We did. So she took it over to a lady in her town that had a long arm machine and while we were there that week it was quilted. We paid the $75.00 for the quilting. That is how we ended upwith this very interesting, very heavy quilt. It does not have a label on it either but I do know the history of this quilt so it will be easy to make one for the quilt.

Since it was winter we got to sleep on a feather bed under lots of quilts.

And it was my first time ever seeing snow. Oh, it was lots of snow too.

Quilt Festival

I thought I would join the Blogger's Quilt Festival this year with one of my old quilts. This is one of my favorite quilts. Here is the story behind this quilt. Shortly after I got I married which was in 1976 I was looking through a magazine and saw a picture of a log cabin quilt. When I saw that quilt I told myself I could make this quilt. Looked pretty simple. So I went and bought all the fabric and made a template because that is what the directions said to do. Well, I started cutting out the pieces with scissors and decided I had enough of that. So I gave the fabric and the pattern to my grandma who was a quilter not giving that quilt another thought. Then one Christmas maybe two years later my grandma gave me a big surprise. It was that quilt all sewn by hand. It was layered and tied with yarn. If you look at the close up you will see a block that needs repair which I really need to take care of soon. I used this quilt all the time until we got a king size bed.

This is how my grandma would finish all her quilts. She takes the back and brings it around to the front to make the binding.
