A UFO Finish and Vacation, part 3

My only finish for the month of May! Don't breathe, the bowls might fall over! This is a paper piece pattern by Regina Grewe.  I machine quilted a few bowls on top of the other bowls. I am linking up my "Lovely Finish" to Melissa's blog. Check out some of the other finishes for this month.

 Here is the last of my vacation pictures. This is my mom's sewing space. She is the one who got me addicted to quilting in 1999.

 Here is her nice and neat stash. She let me go "shopping for free" in her stash.

 Check out this stack of fabric I brought home. I also brought home a jelly roll, a pattern, and a book.

 My mom crocheted this lovely table cloth years ago. I am now the proud owner.

 My mom also made this pastel queen size quilt from 30's reproduction fabrics. I now own this quilt.

 My grandmother who was also a quilter made this quilt at least 25 years ago. It is a king size quilt. All hand appliqued, hand pieced, and hand quilted by her. I have always loved this quilt and I am now the proud owner of this quilt too.

 My mom took me to her local quilt shop while I was visiting her. I bought some mini clamshell paper pieces and some other notions.

 Of course, I had to buy some fabrics too.

 While I was visiting I did work on some blocks for my row quilt but I still have to prep some more pieces before I can put the row together.

I Interrupt...

I interrupt my vacation photos with show and tell from the Applique Addicts bee.

Charlotte made the little spring time table topper using wool and beads on the leaves. This is a Primitive Gatherings pattern.

Brenda has been busy making a new quilt top. Not sure what the pattern is for the top.She continues to work on her wool blocks from the Hop To It book.

I also interrupt my vacation photos because I want to say a big THANK YOU to Michelle of The Raspberry Rabbits. She sent me a copy of the new Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks magazine.

Look! she autographed her block which is in the magazine. It is her first entry and I am sure it won't be her last. Congrats Michelle and thanks again for adding this issue to my collection.

Vacation, part 2

During our vacation Mr. P. and I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary. We stopped at a restaurant along the beach and ordered some boiled shrimp. One of my favorite foods.

We sat outside on the deck. This was our view of the beach across the street.

The weather was perfect. No humidity which was great.

We drove further down the beach and stopped again just to sit out on the beach.

This was the most people we saw at one time on the beach. And only because it was a Christina retreat center. There were hundreds of teenagers there playing volley ball, swimming, and just having fun on the beach.

As we were leaving that area I spotted a cactus that was blooming. Funny to see a cactus at the beach.

Here is the house I want to live in right across from the beach. LOL No, I could never afford it. But is nice to dream.

Here is the strip as we are driving back. Front beach (that is what the locals call that road) has changed so much since we left. It is really amazing. It is definitely a tourist town and that strip will be bumper to bumper after school lets out.

And because it is a tourist town you see tacky stuff like this. Mr. P. and I actually dined at this restaurant after our senior prom.

These next three photos are of new tourist attractions. So tacky.

That evening we had dinner with Mr. P's brother and our sister-in-law who still live in that same neighborhood where I met Mr. P. We had a good visit with them and we will see them again when their son gets married on September 1.
I also got to spend some time with my sister and her husband. They also celebrated an anniversary this month. My mom took us all out for dinner. Then I had fried shrimp. Yum!
Tomorrow I will share some quilty stuff. My mom is a quilter too. Come back tomorrow and see what she shared with me.

Follow Me on My Vacation, part 1

I was not even sure this trip to Florida was going to happen because I had to report to jury duty on Monday. We had scheduled our first day of vacation on Tuesday because I am the president of our guild which met that Monday night. So at 8am I reported for jury duty. First thing in the morning the woman in charge called out a bunch of people from the group. There were about ten of us left. So we sat and sat. We went to lunch and sat some more. Finally at 4:30pm a jury was picked and I was let go. Yippee! I didn't have to postpone my vacation. I went home, got my stuff for guild, did my thing there, came home and packed. Whew! what a day.

 Tuesday morning at 5am we hit the road. First state we passed through was South Carolina.(no photos)

 Next state, Georgia. My turn to drive. If you look close along the horizon you can see Stone Mountain which is one of Georgia's famous sights to visit.

 Check out the traffic! Always lots of traffic going through Atlanta.

 Almost there. Finally came to the Florida state line.

About 12 hours later we arrived at my mom's house. Those 12 hours included a couple of stops to eat and stretch. It was so good to see my mom, it had been way to long. My dad had passed away from cancer 20 years ago and my mom has since remarried. He is a good guy.

 Next morning Mr. P. and I got up to spend a day at the beach. My mom lives approximately 30-40 minutes from the beach. We decided to take the scenic route. The south is known for its moss covered trees. Here are photos of the bay.

 We visited some antique stores while downtown. I love taking photos of old movie theaters.

 After doing a little shopping we continued toward the beach. We have to cross the bay by this bridge. The original bridge was taken down several years ago. That old bridge was a little scary to cross.

 The route has changed a little to make the traffic flow smoother but not quicker in the summer time. Then it is bumper to bumper traffic. That tall building did not used to be there either. To the right is the neighborhood I used to live in. Mr. P. lived there too and that is where we met. We went to high school together.

 Tomorrow I will share some sights from the beach and the next post I will share some quilty stuff.
