Unwrapping the Goodness!

I have these four jelly rolls that have just been sitting on my shelf. What should I do with them? Well, I decided I needed "a start something new" fix! I know I am just supposed to be working on UFOs but when I saw that Doreen is having a jelly roll sew along I decided to join in.

So I unwrapped this Cinnamon Spice jelly roll. 

 Just one jelly roll and some background fabric is all you need to make a 60" x 72" quilt. I have all my pieces cut out and I am ready for the next set of instructions. Join in if you have a jelly roll that has been just sitting on your shelf waiting for you to unwrap its goodness!

 I just have to show this photo too. Sorry it is blurry looking. It was taken through the window screen. That is a big hawk sitting on the bluebird house. No bluebirds have made their home in it yet but I am sure if they had the parents would be swooping down at that big old bird.

Hexie Friday

I sewed three more flowers to my hexagon quilt. One thing I did not mention the last time I shared this quilt was that this is a charm quilt. That means that each hexagon uses a different fabric. No two fabrics will be alike.

 Even the green hexagons will use a different fabrics.

Last Quilt Bound

Here is the fourth UFO quilt all bound and ready to be donated. Some of you might recognize these blocks because you did them last year too. These blocks are from the Bloggers BOM hosted by Jackie of Canton Village Quilt Works.

 Here are some details of the quilting done by the amazing Laura! Thanks Laura for doing all these quilts for me.

 Every time I would sit down to work on the binding of each quilt I would think, "I want to keep this quilt for myself." Laura just made these quilts extra special. I will not keep any them, of course, because my original plan was to donate them. Where I am donating them? I am donating them to Hopes and Dreams Quilt Challenge for ALS-Lou Gehrig's disease. I don't know anyone with this disease but for some reason it really touches my heart. The quilts are given to ALS patients or used to raise awareness.  This challenge is put on by Quilters Dream batting. I have donated quilts to this cause for several years. There are prizes but that is not why I donate. I just want to share some quilts with patients.

 So as I was going through my sewing room getting ready to move to my new space I found two more quilts that I am going to share. This one was made from all kinds of blocks which was just placed in a random setting.

This was one of my first quilts I made. Maybe you have some quilts you would like to donate. The minimum size is 35" x 44 or larger. 

 So I will put these quilts in the mail after I share them at our guild meeting next Monday night. I am linking up the Blogger's BOM on the June finishes linky party at Such a Sew and Sew.

A Season By Hand and other stuff

I am really excited about this new blog hop that begins today. A Season by Hand by Clover and Violet. I am going to reveal my hand project on July 9. Wrap up and Linky running July 26 – August 5, 2013

I finished binding another donation quilt. This quilt was a BOM from a local quilt shop that is no longer open. These are old blocks from the early 2000's. The center applique block was from a Hawaiian applique class I took years ago. I even forgot that it was in this quilt. My daughter put the blocks together a couple years ago thinking she might want it but has changed her mind. So I got Laura to quilt it. She just did some meandering on this quilt.  It will be added to the other quilts that I am donating. 

Yesterday I spent the morning cleaning the walls of the room that will soon be my sewing room. Today I got around to painting around the edges of the room. I do the trim and cut work and Mr. P. does the rolling. Hopefully I will have my part done by this weekend so he can do his part.

Yesterday I harvested the first bunch of peas from the garden. I am growing two kinds. The little round peas are so sweet it is like eating sugar

June Goals and Giveaway Winner for May

 Yes, I am late with my announcement of my goals and the winner of May's giveaway. So let's get to it. For this month I am going to continue to work on hand quilting my North Carolina quilt. I only got one block done. I will work on the row quilt. I didn't even get one row done. I am also going to continue to add flowers to my hexagon quilt. I did add four flowers.

The winner of the May giveaway is Collette from What about Rheema? Congratulations! Collette! She already has her June goals up on her blog. She is working on some really cute barn blocks designed by Lori Holt.

 Why am I late with this post of my goals and the winner? Didn't I tell you in the last post I was so busy? I am still so busy!! This past weekend Mr. P. and I were working out in the garden and planting some new flowers in our flower beds at the house. This weekend I harvested all the garlic which looks pretty good this year. I have also been harvesting onions. I planted four kinds of beans in the garden. We got a lot of rain last night which filled up the rain barrels. The garden was very thirsty too so I am very grateful for the rain we got. Everything is looking good. I will share photos as the seedling grow a little bigger where you can see them better.

 Another reason I have been so busy is that we are doing some updates in our house. Mostly the floors. We are tearing out the carpets in bedrooms and linoleum in the kitchen/dining area. We are adding wood laminate in all those rooms. This first room was my daughter's room who is now moved to the room over the garage. That is where my sewing area is too. So as soon as this room is done I am moving all my sewing stuff down here. We have pulled out the carpet. It took some time to get all the staples out that was holding the padding down underneath the carpet. So today I will going to the hardware store to get the paint. Nothing really exciting. It is a white called Swan's Wing. It is interesting to read the names on paint chips. So I guess you can figure out what I will be working on this week.

 I did get another quilt bound. This is also a donation quilt. This was a free embroidery BOM from Aurifil that different designers shared each month.
