A Season By Hand and other stuff

I am really excited about this new blog hop that begins today. A Season by Hand by Clover and Violet. I am going to reveal my hand project on July 9. This blog hop will be great fun to see what ideas come from the other bloggers who are going to share their hand sewing projects. I finished binding another donation quilt. This quilt was a BOM from a local quilt shop that is no longer open. These are old blocks from the early 2000's. The center applique block was from a Hawaiian applique class I took years ago. I even forgot that it was in this quilt. My daughter put the blocks together a couple years ago thinking she might want it but has changed her mind. So I got Laura to quilt it. She just did some meandering on this quilt.  It will be added to the other quilts that I am donating. 

Yesterday I spent the morning cleaning the walls of the room that will soon be my sewing room. Today I got around to painting around the edges of the room. I do the trim and cut work and Mr. P. does the rolling. Hopefully I will have my part done by this weekend so he can do his part.

Yesterday I harvested the first bunch of peas from the garden. I am growing two kinds. The little round peas are so sweet it is like eating sugar

June Goals and Giveaway Winner for May

 Yes, I am late with my announcement of my goals and the winner of May's giveaway. So let's get to it. For this month I am going to continue to work on hand quilting my North Carolina quilt. I only got one block done. I will work on the row quilt. I didn't even get one row done. I am also going to continue to add flowers to my hexagon quilt. I did add four flowers.

The winner of the May giveaway is Collette from What about Rheema? Congratulations! Collette! She already has her June goals up on her blog. She is working on some really cute barn blocks designed by Lori Holt.

 Why am I late with this post of my goals and the winner? Didn't I tell you in the last post I was so busy? I am still so busy!! This past weekend Mr. P. and I were working out in the garden and planting some new flowers in our flower beds at the house. This weekend I harvested all the garlic which looks pretty good this year. I have also been harvesting onions. I planted four kinds of beans in the garden. We got a lot of rain last night which filled up the rain barrels. The garden was very thirsty too so I am very grateful for the rain we got. Everything is looking good. I will share photos as the seedling grow a little bigger where you can see them better.

 Another reason I have been so busy is that we are doing some updates in our house. Mostly the floors. We are tearing out the carpets in bedrooms and linoleum in the kitchen/dining area. We are adding wood laminate in all those rooms. This first room was my daughter's room who is now moved to the room over the garage. That is where my sewing area is too. So as soon as this room is done I am moving all my sewing stuff down here. We have pulled out the carpet. It took some time to get all the staples out that was holding the padding down underneath the carpet. So today I will going to the hardware store to get the paint. Nothing really exciting. It is a white called Swan's Wing. It is interesting to read the names on paint chips. So I guess you can figure out what I will be working on this week.

 I did get another quilt bound. This is also a donation quilt. This was a free embroidery BOM from Aurifil that different designers shared each month.

So Busy!

My life has been so busy since I got home from Florida. Not much time to do any sewing but when I have a minute I will work on binding some quilts. These quilts are also UFOs.

This first quilt is from TraceyJay Quilts. It was free pattern at the time I started this quilt but I think you might have to pay for the pattern now. This is going to be a donation quilt along with the others I am binding. I used a lot of five inch squares to make the blocks.

 My sweet friend, Laura, quilted all the quilts on her domestic machine. She just amazes me with the designs she can do.

I am also working on an applique block. I have been asked to teach an applique class at a quilt shop so I wanted to make something new. It will be a 12" block and will fit my table top wire stand.

A UFO Finish and Vacation, part 3

My only finish for the month of May! Don't breathe, the bowls might fall over! This is a paper piece pattern by Regina Grewe.  I machine quilted a few bowls on top of the other bowls. I am linking up my "Lovely Finish" to Melissa's blog. Check out some of the other finishes for this month.

 Here is the last of my vacation pictures. This is my mom's sewing space. She is the one who got me addicted to quilting in 1999.

 Here is her nice and neat stash. She let me go "shopping for free" in her stash.

 Check out this stack of fabric I brought home. I also brought home a jelly roll, a pattern, and a book.

 My mom crocheted this lovely table cloth years ago. I am now the proud owner.

 My mom also made this pastel queen size quilt from 30's reproduction fabrics. I now own this quilt.

 My grandmother who was also a quilter made this quilt at least 25 years ago. It is a king size quilt. All hand appliqued, hand pieced, and hand quilted by her. I have always loved this quilt and I am now the proud owner of this quilt too.

 My mom took me to her local quilt shop while I was visiting her. I bought some mini clamshell paper pieces and some other notions.

 Of course, I had to buy some fabrics too.

 While I was visiting I did work on some blocks for my row quilt but I still have to prep some more pieces before I can put the row together.

I Interrupt...

I interrupt my vacation photos with show and tell from the Applique Addicts bee.

Charlotte made the little spring time table topper using wool and beads on the leaves. This is a Primitive Gatherings pattern.

Brenda has been busy making a new quilt top. Not sure what the pattern is for the top.She continues to work on her wool blocks from the Hop To It book.

I also interrupt my vacation photos because I want to say a big THANK YOU to Michelle of The Raspberry Rabbits. She sent me a copy of the new Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks magazine.

Look! she autographed her block which is in the magazine. It is her first entry and I am sure it won't be her last. Congrats Michelle and thanks again for adding this issue to my collection.
