Autumn Harvest
My housework is done, my sewing room is clean again and I have picked the last of some of our vegetables. I taught an applique class yesterday. Today I have things to do in the yard and then I hope to get back to some sewing. I have missed working on applique.
Some acorn squash came up in our compost pile so we decided to plant it. At the time we transplanted it we did not know what it was until after the flowers had bloomed. A very nice surprise.
See those potato peelers? That one on the bottom of the photo is old and apparently very dull. I bought a new OXO peeler, the black one and it would peel that squash easily.
I took out all the seeds so that I could mix them with some spices to roast. They were very good. I made some squash soup and I made Butternut Sausage and Penne. Minus the penne. My husband likes angel hair pasta. It was delicious with a garnish of fresh basil on top. I got the recipe from The Happier Homemaker.
Here are the last of the peppers. The green ones are supposed to be red but we had some thirty degree mornings and I didn't wan them to get ruined.
And speaking of basil. Did you know that you can cut some of the tops off, put them in water, and watch them make more roots? Pretty neat.
I just re-potted them and now I can have fresh basil all winter long.

I leave you with some beautiful fall photos from my yard. That is my driveway. You are looking down to the main street. Oh, don't you know it is fun in the winter!! We usually park our cars at the bottom when we hear snow is coming. We have a neighbor who has been so kind to clear it with his tractor when the snow gets deep. I usually stay put but my husband has to walk down it to get to work.

Glad you liked the recipe! I'll have to try it with angel hair-it looks great! Also going to try the basil cutting, my boys would love to watch the roots grow!
What a beautiful fall post today Carrie! It's a great time of the year, isn't it?
Good tip about the basil. I'm going to try it. Thanks
Hello, and thank you for the tip about Basil, your 5.00yd fabrics are lovely.

Beautiful pictures....love the flowers and the fabric below!
Perfect fall post, Carrie! Your squash looks SO good! We did the same with our peppers and the rest of the tomatoes and I had no idea you could do that with basil - great tip!
Cheers!
This is such a beautiful post! Truly, the pictures are wonderful. Your drive is just lovely, and I can picture it in the winter where I'd just hunker down for some sewing. I'm sure you do. Thanks for the tip about rooting basil. I had no idea!
Beautiful photos Carrie. And your meal looks SO good!
Your yard is so picturesque. Thank you for the butternut squash link. I have one I need to use. That recipe looks delicious.
I've never tried basil for myself, good tip though, I'll share with my neighbor who does. Your driveway view is gorgeous. Lucky you have a nice neighbor. Our other home at the farm house has a drive much like this but it's gravel. Thanks for the link to your recipe. I never know what to do with these squash.
your pasta dish looks yum.
Hadn't tried the basil trick. They usually go to seed too quickly in our garden.
Your driveway and garden photo are lovely.
Mmmm... I can almost smell your basil!
Thanks for the tip about the basil. I didn't know that and we buy new basil every year - not any more, thanks!
Wow! You have been busy. What a great craft show. Glad you enjoyed it. I cannot believe Westminster fabric for $5 a yard. What a bargain. Wish I could have been there.
Beautiful fall photos. I cannot imagine making my way through all that snow in the winter!
Looks delicious, Carrie. I have never had luck with growing fresh basil. Now, I'm inspired. Love the fall colors.

I have a great recipe for the butternut squash Dip, MY guys eat it watching football, if you want it just ask
Quiltedladibug@aol.com and I will zap it back to you,
I has cumin and chili power in it very yummy.
Love those beautiful shots of your garden and that wonderful meal. I have been over to a Happier homemaker and ensconced the recipe safely to my hard-drive for a butternut from my mother's garden which had been sidelined for soup but now has another destiny to fulfill. I heard the other day that pumpkin seeds are particularly good for you rich in something useful like zinc and manganese, sorry I can't remember exactly what but really good for you. Carrie, thank-you I really enjoyed reading your lovely post!God bless you.
The picture of your driveway in fall is simply beautiful. Its so beautiful that you can actually frame it. I would love to have a picture like that up on my walls. You're lucky to live amongst natural beauty.
Hi This is Roda here again. I noticed you wrote a comment about your peeler.I do Tupperware so I can confidently tell you that the Tupperware peeler can peel the hardest skin like a stalk of sugarcane effortlessly as it is made of surgical steel. I would have sold you one only I live in India. So go get yourself a Tupperware peeler.
Regards
Mmmm... I just love butternut squash. That pasta looks delicious! And all of the other veggie treats just look great. There's nothing like veggies fresh from the garden.
