Just sharing...

my second finish for this month. It is a preemie quilt. My quilt guild donates them to a local hospital. This quilt was made from leftover pieces of an autograph quilt I made for my #2 son when he got married. I even made the binding from the pieces. I am linking this finish up to Such a Sew and Sew and Sew Bitter Sweet Designs.

I am also sharing what's in my garden.  These daffodils have been taking their sweet time blooming. The green part started coming up back in January. They just can't make up their minds with the cold, then warm, and then cold again weather that we have been experiencing.
I thought I would share something I learned from a gardening blog last year. Sorry I don't remember the name of the blog. The blogger shared that sometimes when you buy green onions or leeks from the store they might have their roots still attached. She said to plant those to get more onions or leeks. I tried it and it works. I buy organic veggies which still have the roots. Here you can see green onions, leeks, and celery in a bowl of water. You will notice more roots on the leeks and green parts coming up on the leeks and onions where I cut them. I am trying the celery to see what happens. Even though there are no roots on the celery there are some green leaves popping through the center.
Here are some I planted a couple months ago to see what would happen. Yay! I have more to harvest. Even if you don't have a garden space like me you could put them in a flower pot and grow your own. Pretty neat idea!
Theses are two beds I have had under the hoop houses during the winter. Cabbage, onions I planted from seeds and kale.
If you look close at this photo you can see some green leaves which is garlic. Looks like the Easter Bunny came early to hide eggs.
Don't forget about the book blog tour. Come back tomorrow to read what my first guest blogger has to share about her new book.

Nice preemie quilt. What a great way to use up your leftovers, and for such a good cause. I noticed yesterday that my daffodils are thinking about opening soon. We're getting a fairly warm rain today, and the earth is happy!

Cute quilt:) Will have to see what I can do from the scraps. Let me know how it goes with the celery. Been wanting to try that.

What a wonderful use of leftovers. We have daffodil buds but no open flowers just yet. Had a snowflake or 3 this morning. I know you're excited about your garden and all it's bounty.

Your preemie quilt looks like sea glass - pretty! And I love your idea for the leek, onions and celery. Once the three feet of snow melts off the garden, I'm going to try that!

What a wonderful preemie quilt!
Great start to your garden already, love the decorations you added to it! Now I want to try rooting veggies too, thanks for sharing this great planting tip!

I love the quilt. I really like those colors, does the quilt go with the baby or do they stay at the hospital? Really neat about the celery and onions, I remember my Mom doing that, but hadn't thought about it in years. I'll have to give it a try.

Some little preemie will have a brighter world for your quilt, Carrie! I love what's happening in your garden - even though the Easter bunny is a bit early, you'll get first pick of eggs!
Cheers!

Congrats on your second finish this month! It's lovely! Love the bright colors. Ah, now I know why I haven't seen the Easter bunny yet, it's very busy your side! :) I have grown leek from those small pieces having roots, works very well. Never tried celery though...

You can plant your garlic cloves too.

It is always so fun to see what is growing in your garden. It is nearly tulip time here-- I can't wait to see the blooms appear in my neighbors' yards.

The preemie quilt is so happy! I am thinking maybe I need to try and do a few small quilts... things I can use my stash with and finish and help motivate me to get on with the big projects? Hmmm... :)

How cool to be able to utilize leftover fabric to make a quilt for such a worthy cause. Super, super special.
