I have been working on some embroidery blocks along with other things at this time. You will notice a skein of embroidery floss at the bottom of the block. It is the new Cosmo brand from Japan. I used the green on the vine in this block. I just wanted to share my thoughts about the new floss. I like it a lot. It feels like silk in your hand. As you bring the floss through the fabric it doesn't make lint or little fuzzies as you stitch. It will still fray at the end like other floss but it doesn't seem to do it as much. I have to say it is very nice floss to work with.

Look at this brazen deer. Now I am getting a little upset. I know this is silly but I don't know if it is a male or female since it doesn't have antlers. Either way I don't like it this close. It is eating my tomato plant which is only about 12 feet from my back door. My daughter caught it in the act.

Carrie where did you purchase the floss? I use presencia and I love the sheen but sometimes it is too thick.

I have to try that cosmo floss, sounds very nice! I don't know much about bats, but my neighbors have few 'bat houses' in their woods, maybe if you mount a few they will move in to them?
What a bold animal that deer is! Pretty, but vert destructive.

Beautiful blocks. Icky bats! I hope you planted more than one tomato plant! The wild critters, bunnies and such, are also brazen now that our Neko is not on guard!
Carrie....guess what I did for a living waaaaay back when I lived in CA? I was licensed in the State for Pest Control. Yepper...little ol' me! I can tell you exactly what to do about the bats....because we had same thing the first year we moved here. The bats are a protected species so it is illegal to hurt them....and especially this time of year because of the babies. Email me your phone and I will call you with details of how easy it is to remedy your problem.

And I don't know about bat repellent, but you can hang a bar of soap next to your tomatos - if the deer gets a taste of that - she won't be back!

I'd guess that deer is a big ol' doe. We saw a young buck yesterday and he had his antlers in velvet. She's a brazen old girl to come that close to your house though!

LOVE your blocks - I need to start a few of those myself! Yes, that deer is too close for comfort. I've seen to many videos of them in people's living rooms, after going through picture windows! Can you hang bells or wind chimes around? Not sure if that would help or not.

That is interesting about the floss. I have only used DMC but when I start my Mary Wigham, I would love to buy some really nice floss.

Love your stitcheries! We do not have Cosmo floss around here yet, but my sister is going to California in a couple of weeks and I am making her a list. Cosmo floss is on it and the Mandarin (bamboo) floss.
Carrie, plant rosemary. Mr. W. swears a blue streak every time he has to trim our roses (at least 2x a month) - "I thought the %$^& deer were supposed to eat these things!" but I have a rosemary bush close to the roses and the deer just pass us by on the way to the neighbor's plants. *I just love the smell of rosemary - it wasn't intentionally a deer repellent*
Next garden we have, I have strict instructions to put the rosemary far, far away from the roses!

I think that floss is starting to appear here in Oz, I hope they do a conversion chart. We have a lot of deer around here but we're fencing in so not in our yard, I don't know how you can deter them. I worry about them jumping in front of the car, them and Kangaroos and Wallabies.
We had the same problems with deer every year (except ours were smart enough to just come out at night). Deer would eat the tomatoes and peppers from the top and the rabbits from the bottom. Finally, this year, I asked a man at our church what he did. I know he lives next to the woodline and has a large garden. He said he takes Irish Spring soap, cuts it into chunks and spreads it along the perimeter of the garden. Well, we tried it this year and so far it is working like a charm. We see deer prints around the perimeter but nothing has been eaten and there are no deer prints inside the garden area.
Your little embroidery blocks are so sweet. :0) I hope your tomato plant recovers. In my yard the squirrels try to eat or dig up everything.

Brazen deer....they're beautiful but have pretty much destroyed my front yard this year. I supposed b/c it's so incredibly dry this summer. They're eating things they usually don't touch. Very frustrating.
