I taught this quilt pattern when I first starting teaching. I like to teach lots of different techniques so that the student can find the one that they like. One class I even had a man come learn to applique. He and his wife quilt together.
I got one block of my number 9 UFO finished. The hand dyed wool is so pretty. I am using Aurifil 50% wool, 50% acryclic thread to stitch down the pieces. I am sorry I don't remember where I got the thread. I went to some of my favortie sites but can't seem to find it. Sue Spargo has a different brand of thread in lots of colors.

Hi Carrie. I am teaching a class in February for my dresses quilt. I have never taught applique before. I've taught plenty of other classes but not applique! I use freezer paper or machine baste and then clip threads and use that line to needle turn. So those will be my suggestions but it is hard to get it all in a 3 hour time frame.
Your applique is so nice. I love my wool snowman on my cottage block. It really is so cute.
To answer your questions on my blog - the scarf is out of selvedges - I won it from Ric Rac blog. It is so fun. I was going to wear it to work today but I forgot it! And you are right - I could almost split them up and make one for each of my kids!!! :-) but I don't want to share them.
Pretty. I think it's great to teach different methods because not everyone "gets" the same technique. The one that worked best for me (even though I don't like to applique) is needleturn.

I love your quilt, I remember taking some first clases and looking at the pattern it covers some details, inside curves, outside curves circles, stems, that were taught in my class. But the best thing is your class gives you a nice finished product.
Your block turned out so nice, love the wool, and I use wool aurifil also, I want to try it on the machine sometime.
What method of applique do you teach? My favourite is freezer paper and starch method. Your quilt is gorgeous.
I'm curious as to which method you recommend. I've taken classes from several different people, and I like to applique, but I'm still not satisfied with my own work. Points on leaves are really hard for me.
What shop in NC are you teaching? We don't have a quilt shop in my town so I travel to other areas of NC. Your applique is very pretty. This is something I have not mastered. :-) I LOVE the tree skirt your working on.

I'd love to take a class from you just for the pattern. :-) Years ago when I first started quilting I took a hand applique class where the teacher taught several methods and when she got to needleturn, I failed miserably and got discouraged. Then I took another class and learned to do the freezer paper and starch method - since then I've been an applique fanatic. LOL

OMG! That's one of my favorite patterns of all time! I love how you primmed it up in the darker blues and shades of gray...I must remeber to do that when I tackle this one. I think it's just stunning! Your work is wonderful. How I wish I had a teacher nearby...i could use to learn a thing or two, or more, LOL!
I love that quilt with the churn dash and the vase, it is such a great combination!
I came by to check your Blue Jug Summer quilt. It is very nice. And hand appliqued too!
