Randomness

Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe! Oh, so many choices when it comes to gardening catalogs. If you are a gardener and buy from catalogs you know what I mean. This is my first year doing this so it is a bit overwhelming. Out of all the catalogs I have it seems that three are my favorites. I just have to pick out some tomatoes and potatoes. Then I will place my orders soon.

Here is a sneak peek of a quilt I am working on. Since I am the guild vice president this year I am responsible for coming up with a quilt for our president. I will show more as it progresses. I will tell you that I will be getting help on the next part which is applique.
My first time forcing a bulb to grow during the winter months. This is a paper white which I was given from the Plow and Hearth store that opened up in our area. Here are some of the stages. I tied all the leaves up with a twine but now they are so heavy the leaves are laying on its side.
Some flowers have opened up. The flowers are tiny. Measuring 1 1/2" across and smell delightful.
I have been working on various other things but nothing else really to show just yet.
I have been asked by a reader to do a tutorial on inner curves and deep valleys using needle turn applique. I am preparing my next blocks from the Linen Closet Quilts BOM to use in part of the tutorial.
Speaking of the Linen Closet Quilts blog, did you know Dawn is having a giveaway for her new book? The giveaway is open until the 25th.

With Passion,
Carrie P.

I don't grow anything from seed but gardening catalogs are still fun to look at. I know you're excited about your garden. The guild quilt colors are very pretty. Even though I don't applique :o) I'll be looking forward to your tutorial.

I miss gardening. My island environment is a little too harsh for growing much without a greenhouse. Looking forward to your tutorial. Thanks for the heads up about Dawn's give-away.

Your garden will be wonderful, Carrie! How is everything doing under the row covers? Love your paper white - they make me sneeze terribly, so I'm doing amaryliss this year - and they're now going into a second bloom!
Cheers!

Were your paperwhites overwhelmingly fragrant? That's what I remember from mine. Pretty fabrics for your next project.

It has been so long since I enjoyed the fragrance of paperwhites...which reminds me of the tablerunner in wools I did that feature paperwhites...might just get that out soon.

Don't you love all those garden catalogs showing up in the depths of winter? So hard to choose and all things are possible!

I usually have paperwhite bulbs each year. After my dad had his stroke, my mom put paperwhite bulbs in his room for 5 years. They always remind me of him. I found that if I put the bulbs in a really tall container, I don't have the leaning problem so badly. Some people use equal parts of alcohol and water each time they water the bulbs and that causes a shorter plant. I enjoy your blog!!

Looks as if you've been really busy at your house. Lol, I never knew there were so many seed catalogs out there either till a few years ago. I keep thinking I'll order some double poppy seeds before the end of winter, guess I'd better get a move on it if I plan on doing it. I'll prob order off ebay. I can't wait to see the applique your doing on the pres. quilt.

Gardening catalogs are always so much fun to look through! Almost fun enough to make me want to actually try gardening. :P Really though, I wish I had a yard to do something in. I'm kind of hoping to at least do some container gardening with my boys this spring. We'll see! :)
