Yesterday I worked on another corner of my free motion quilting challenge.
One more side to go.
We have some sweltering hot weather here in North Carolina but I had to go out in it today to pick all the beets and half the carrots. I froze the carrots and pickled the beets. A lot of work goes into preparing the veggies for preserving them but it is worth it.
Mr. Bluebird stopped by for a minute and I was fast enough to get a picture. You might remember me showing you some bluebird eggs
here. All those babies hatched. A few days later I noticed that the parents were not visiting the house so I went to check on the babies. They had all died. Not sure why. But this bluebird has found a mate and they are in the process of building a new nest in the house. Hopefully the babies will make it this time.

We are also going through unusually warm and humid weather this week - unlike a typical Wisconsin summer that is more pleasant. Hoping my lettuces and spinach don't bolt in the heat. We have little bluebirds too - wondering if your little babies couldn't tolerate the high heat?? We have seen a number of different eggs on the ground around the gardens. Not sure what is happening...happy you dropped by to visit our pond:o)
I can only dream of warm weather. It is 9:15am, the sky is grey and current temperature is 5°C (41°F). Roll on spring!
I never did like canning but I like eating the canned food. I haven;t helped with canning since I was in my early twenties. We have never had a garden but our parents did.
You quilting is coming right along! Looks good. I would love to have a garden like yours. Nice you are producing so many yummies! I am jealous as you remember from my blog! LOL. Take care!
Your quilting is getting more and more complicated - bravo! What a great harvest - don't you just love not having to get so much at the grocery store? So sorry about the bluebird babies, but I'm glad they're building another nest!

nice quilting progress. my mom made zuchinni pineapple bread to get us to eat our veggies. chocolate zuchinni sounds good too!
